ABC‘s 9-10 PM comedy block, which was slated to air until the Dancing With The Stars result show returns March 29, is being dissolved effective immediately. After a month-and-a-half break, the only surviving member of the block, Happy Endings (its companion, Don’t Trust The B— was recently cancelled) will move to Fridays. Beginning February 26, reality series Taste, which airs at 8 PM, will slide to 9 PM, and a limited run of Celebrity Wife Swap will take over the 8 PM hour. (A Bachelor: Sean Tells All special airs at 9 PM next week.) Celebrity Wife Swap will be replaced with new diving reality series Splash on March 19. As for the remaining Happy Endings originals, ABC will air them back-to-back from 8-9 PM on Friday beginning March 29, after the Friday night comedy block of Last Man Standing and Malibu Country will have aired their season finales. This marks the third time slot for Happy Endings this midseason. In January, ABC slotted originals of Happy Endings and Don’t Trust The B— in the Sunday 10 PM hour in addition to their Tuesday runs but pulled them after two airings. The February 26 season premiere of Celebrity Wife Swap features Splash contestant and Playmate Kendra Wilkinson and reality mom Kate Gosselin of Kate Plus Eight fame switching families.

RIP Happy Endings, how I loved thee.
Please don’t bury this show. It is really good!
Just change it to a sci-fi sitcom. It will flourish on Fridays.
It’s funny to think in season 2, this was actually a good, and successful, show. Oh, what a difference a year makes…
More like what a difference a time slot makes. In season 2 it was on after “Modern Family.” Except maybe Cougar Town, no post-MF show has been able to keep any popularity once it’s moved to its own slot.
I meant the quality of the show, not the quantity of the viewers. Well, quantity too, but mainly quality.
They are seriously going to run this Ah-mah-zing series into the ground. Too bad. It’s one of the best sitcoms out there today.
ABC murdered “Don’t Trust the B—- in Apt23″. That great show never had a chance.
I agree. This is the beginning of the end for Happy Endings. Might as stop watching now since it won’t be returning.
Please Jay … Begging you to NOT stop watching … look I know it’s not a popular night but if this series can hit a even lowly but respectable rating, ABC will bring this show back. This is a last chance opportunity for fans to spend a few weeks at home on a Friday and save the show! I hear it’s alive because internally ABC loves this show. I’m just asking you watch when it comes back on 3/29, where’s your happy endings spirit?! Everyone should try to spread the word before it’s really too late.
Happy ending is my 2nd fav comedy, cougar town being the first, and I hate that it has been getting a kind of crappy treatment, it is so good and doesn’t deserve it. Well will watch till I can’t
This is one of the funnier sitcoms on right now. If it does get cancelled then maybe TBS will pick it up as they did with Cougar Town (as this is a way better show).
A shame. Best comedy. Move it to Fox and pair it with New Girl.
Shame on ABC. This series has moved more times than Rock Center!
Love this show! My fix for the week. Please keep the show on for my sanity! It is ahmazing!
Show is toast.Last stop Friday nights-everybody off! I guess Happy Endings only happen in the movies…
So ABC is making some NBCesque programming moves. Morons. Make a decision and stick with it. Every three goddamn seconds they’re changing shit.
Stupid move by ABC to move the show to a new night up against comedies on Fox and NBC. Nobody won having three comedy blocks on Tuesday, everyone is worse off than before.
Well we’ll get 57 episodes. It will probably get pulled on Friday as well after two weeks. ABC has hurt the show with a late October premiere, a poor lead in with one of the oldest skewing shows on TV, on top of that an inconsistent schedule.
Air for 2 weeks, 1 week off, air for 2 weeks, 1 week off, air for 3 weeks, 2 weeks off but then air extra episodes on Sundays with zero promotion for 2 weeks, 1 week off, air 2 episodes on the same night, take 2 weeks off, air 2 episodes on the same night then take a month off and move to Friday.
“Air for 2 weeks, 1 week off, air for 2 weeks, 1 week off, air for 3 weeks, 2 weeks off but then air extra episodes on Sundays with zero promotion for 2 weeks, 1 week off, air 2 episodes on the same night, take 2 weeks off, air 2 episodes on the same night then take a month off and move to Friday.”
SO well put! this so-called “programming” baffles me. Give me the HBO/AMC model, where you know EXACTLY what you’ll be doing for the next 12 Sunday nights!
Agreed… the networks are usually their own worst enemy.
ok. They put this show on Tuesdays, with little promotion, following a show that older folk watch, a good month AFTER New GIrl and Go On premiere and they wonder why it didn’t get viewers. Then they try Sundays, for a minute. Again, very little to NO advertising. And they wonder why it isn’t working (even fans blogged they didn’t even know the show was on Sundays!).
Recently they said 2 Happy Endings shows on Tuesdays! But not every Tuesday, it will be every third Tuesday when the moon is 2/3rds full or something crazy (I’m kidding). NOW we are going to move to Fridays. I don’t get it at all. Its on, its off. Its this night, its that night. The only way anyone can watch this show is truly to DVR it. Your DVR will find it!
On ANY other network this show could be a hit. ABC just isn’t the place for this show. I’m glad they haven’t cancelled it and I do think they know its a great show (although they could have done a nice ad campaign featuring all the critics praise) but there just isn’t any time slot for comedies on ABC other than Wednesdays. Please someone else grab it fast! We promise we will watch if you tell us when it will be on!
I’m hoping ABC is testing out the show on Friday. They had it on Wednesdays, now Tuesdays (with trial Sunday bonus eps), so given that Thursdays seem out of the question maybe Fridays might be something to seriously consider if ABC is still mulling a renewal. Okay, that’s probably a stretch based on my love for this show. But since ABC is still committing to air all of this season even after sabotaging it by airing against “New Girl” (same demo!), I’m hoping they are just testing the show, knowing they fucked up by putting it on Tuesdays at 9pm and wondering where it could find a better home.
I don’t understand why the producing studios don’t take a look at a show like this – whose ratings were always marginal but who have a devoted cult audience – and get the shows on Netflix streaming ASAP. Cut a deal. Your show will never make it to 100 episodes and make the lucrative traditional syndication money if you can’t grow its audience, and Netflix is the best way to do that.
Fox should pick it up and pair it with new girl or tbs should pick it up and pair it with cougar town
I really must have the worst taste in comedy ever. I love community- and it got cancelled- then loved don’t trust the B and happy endings….
And Whitney will outlast them all
This is the problem with primetime… people with taste know to head to cable for quality TV.
Primetime is left for lowest common denominator stuff like “Whitney”, “Two Broke Girls”, and “The Big Bang Theory”.
I’m surprised that shows like “Community”, “Arrested Development”, and “Happy Endings” got as much time as they did.
The ratings for these shows are terrible. THAT’S why they’re going away. Stop bitching and watch the shows when they’re on, and then tell your friends about how great it is. THAT’S how you keep a show on air. While it’s true that the network shouldn’t shouldn’t have moved HE from Wednesday, they promoted the move to Tuesday (yes, they did), and guess what. NO ONE WATCHED.
So. Please shut up.
BEST and most accurate post out of all these postings tonight, very well said, I wish the country and fans of the show would follow your advice!! People if there’s one post you take seriously it’s the one right above, read it, love happy endings, watch happy endings and tell everyone you know to watch!!
Unless you have a Nielsen box then watching won’t make a difference. If you don’t have a box, you might actually be better off watching online since networks can see exactly how many people have streamed each show.
Unless you or your friends have a Nielsen box it doesn’t matter. So,actually, smart guy, that’s NOT how you keep a show on the air.
ABC could counter The NCIS trilogy next season with a soap block on Tuesdays. Venice aka the OC with flavor at 9 Nashville at 10.
A great show like ‘Happy Endings’ doesnt deserve the treatment it’s getting from ABC. TBS, PLEASE take this show away from them.
Why ABC, Why? I LOVE this show. Its ORIGINAL and hilarious. Please stop fucking with this show and give it the push it deserves.
Let’s hope some dealmaking is made and Happy Endings moves to either Comedy Central, TBS, or Amazon. It would be a shame if this show dies this way. It’s seriously one of the best comedies on the air right now. Much better then the overrated “Girls” and those types of shows…
Mac,
Is there any reason to mention Girls? It’s a cable show on a prestige subscription cable channel. HE is on ABC, which means it needs a lot more viewers to be profitable.
The two are in no way connected. Just as your inability to appreciate Girls is in no way connected to your love for HE.
Personally, I like ‘em both and would love for them to succeed. But I also work in TV, so I understand how this stuff works.
So weird they keep moving this around. It’s on Tuesday’s, then it’s on Sunday’s and Tuesday’s, then it’s double episodes on Tuesday’s, now it’s double episodes on Friday’s. How the hell are people supposed to keep up?
This is an awesome show!!!! Absolutely hilarious and clever. This show cannot seriously be over yet. Sure hope TBS picks this up when ABC gives it the axe. Or NBC. Could probably survive on there. I have to believe someone will pick it up.
ABC is doing everything in their power to demolish this great show, and I am still smarting that they canceled Don’t Trust The B—. Now, more than ever, idiots are running these tv networks. These morons need to understand that you cannot just rely on ratings anymore- to verify tv viewership.
I really hope their is a way that we can have two or three reality tv channels that will only air reality shows, so the reality shows will stay off the big tv network channels. These network channels should only broadcast scripted shows, because it may force them to nurture the quality scripted programs.
