EXCLUSIVE: Kate Simses (What’s Your Number) has landed a regular role in ABC‘s single-camera comedy pilot Mixology, from feature writers Jon Lucas and Scott Moore (The Hangover, The Change-Up) and ABC Studios. I’ve also learned that Ryan Seacrest’s production company is boarding the project as a pod. Shepherding the pilot from Ryan Seacrest Prods will be veteran TV comedy producer Nina Wass, who joined the company as head of scripted in August. Wass has a long history at ABC Studios — she spent eight years there partnered with Gene Stein. I hear ABC Studios has been adding experienced TV producers to several of its newly picked-up pilots, including studio-based Matthew Gross (Body Of Proof), who is joining drama Murder In Manhattan.
Set in the world of a sexy Manhattan bar, the high-concept Mixology chronicles the exploits of singles in search of love — all over the course of one night. Simses will play Liv, the alt-cute, smart, deeply indecisive girl engaged to a lovably boring I-Banker but starting to have second thoughts. The actress, repped by APA and manager Ken Treusch, just finished a role in the new Zac Efron film Are We Officially Dating and was in last year’s Showtime pilot Gurland On Gurland.

Isn’t “high-concept” just a buzzword used by stupid people to sound important?… I’m fired, aren’t I?
This sounds awesome! Nina Wass…really good call. She is fantastic.
Great script. Great production company.
Love the way the networks label new shows nowadays as being high-concept. When reality sets in and noone watches their shows,is it then that they realize the concept wasn’t so high after all?
Ryan Seacrest’s co. boarding the project?! – what? to add their vast scripted experience?
good for rsp and even better to have nina wass experience on board
Congrats Kate!
