BREAKING: Adam Sandler has switched up his dance card and will push the Western he was going to star in to instead make a romantic comedy at Warner Bros. The film is untitled, and is set in the growing phenomenon of blended families. His Happy Madison will produce with Mike Karz’s Gulfstream Pictures, and the film will be his next starring vehicle, one that will mobilize quickly with a director and supporting cast.
That pushes back Ridiculous 6, the Western-themed laffer that Happy Madison had moved from Sony to Paramount last year. That film will be moved back until next year at least. It averts a race of comic Westerns, as MRC has a pretty firm spring start date on the Seth MacFarlane comic Western, A Million Ways To Die In The West, Amanda Seyfried and Charlize Theron also starring, with Universal the favorite to acquire the project.
Sandler’s Warner Bros project will come together quick; he’s eyeing a small group of actresses including his Wedding Singer and 50 First Dates costar Drew Barrymore for the female lead. The logline: After a disastrous blind date, Jim and Lauren find themselves, each with their kids from a previous marriage, stuck together in a resort for families. Despite everything they can do to resist, the attraction grows between the two, and their kids benefit from the growing relationship. The project has been at the studio since 2007, and the original script was written by Ivan Menchell and Clare Sera. Sandler is repped by WME and Brillstein’s Sandy Wernick. The writers are repped by Rain and Paradigm.
Josie Rosen will be exec producer on the pic.

Seriously – does anyone look forward to his stuff anymore? Talk about beating a dead horse. Actually a dead horse is more entertaining then Sandler. Time for studio ilk to figure it out. The rest if us figured it out years ago. Dude hasn’t been funny since happy Gilmore.
How are blended families a growing phenomenon? They’ve been around in popular culture since the Brady Bunch and before that Yours Mine and Ours. They were a growing phenomenon in 1967 as far as movies and TV shows went. Today they are common. This sounds like a movie Sandler decided to do because he doesn’t have anything better to do at Happy Madison. He should do a sequel to Jack and Jill instead of this.
You guys can criticize all you want, Sandler is critic proof. Whatever he wants to do will always make bank. Stop hating.
Totally bro! That’s My Boy made major bank! Must be why Sony can’t wait to do his next project!
Didnt he do this movie in 2011? Just Go With It.
Just go with it, dude.
I’m really glad to see Adam trying something new, rather than the same ole same ole with a Western comedy. Oh wait, I think I have it backwards.
Matt Phelps and Sandler have a very close relationship, this was only a matter of time, and not surprised it came together so quickly.
Way to go Gulfstream! They brought in Matt Phelps for tentpoles, and tentpoles is what they will get.
Yeah Sandler is gold and we will be looking forward to it!
There are the rare occasions when he does manage to make a decent movie, hope this turns out to be one of them. I’d like to see him reunite with Drew.
Jack and Jill was hilarious. Al pacino for the win.
Adam is so insecure he makes way too many movies he’s afraid that if he doesn’t do at least two movies a year he’ll be forgotten. He has more than enough money for the rest of his life so this is all about his ego. He should stop doing so many movies and focus on doing better movies.
Can you blame Adam Sandler for being insecure ? He is a hideous actor , musician, and stand-up comedian. It is all understandable.
He is the character he played in FUNNY PEOPLE.
I’m just surprised he hasn’t made MERMAN yet. Or RE-DO.
My understanding is Sandler has an enormous stable of very loyal employees who he takes very good care of. Maybe he looks at making movies as a business rather than an art, one that he is pretty good at as a comedian who’s made until the last 2 yrs very financially successful films for more than 15 years.
Punch Drunk Love is wonderful. I’d be great to see Sandler do drama again…
Oh, great. Another dumb-@$$ family comedy from Adam Sandler. Who keeps putting up the money to make his M-bombs?
Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore are an excellent, proven screen couple. I expect this new film will be as good as The Wedding Singer and 50 First Dates. Audiences who enjoyed those films are going to be looking forward to the new film. Haters are going to hate, but the rest of us are looking forward to a reteaming of Adam and Drew.
Finally an intelligent comment about Adam Sandler. The man has been extremely successful and deserves recognition for his loyalty to his employees and friends. He has kept cash flowing for a long time now. Just because that’s my boy was a bomb it doesn’t mean the man should stop making movies. The truth is that if any other comedian released jack and Jill and it grossed $75 million domestic, it would be labeled a hit and they would be prepping a sequel. Not that I want a sequel; the movie was awful; but the point is… The car still has plenty of gas left in the tank. A new romantic comedy starring him and Barrymore will gross $120 million domestic easy.
Have had great experience on a production level with Matt and from one Sandler to another, have high hopes for this project. Now only if he will return my calls about my soulcycle spec.
Read both projects. Western is out there, early Sandler, sort of genius but risky, and expensive. Blended is straight down the middle rom-com, well-written but a little vanilla. Sandman trying for a solid single here instead of swinging for the fences,
