Nerdist Industries, the Legendary Entertainment-owned company founded by comedian Chris Hardwick, host of AMC’s The Talking Dead, has inked a multi-platform deal with AMC. Under the pact, Nerdist’s YouTube channel will be showing bonus footage from Talking Dead, the companion live Walking Dead aftershow. Additionally, AMC has inked a development deal with Nerdist to take their YouTube program, All Star Celebrity Bowling, and develop it as a potential series for the network. The Web series features the casts and crews of popular shows, including AMC’s The Walking Dead and Breaking Bad, facing off at a bowling alley. “This is a great way for us to expand our relationship with Chris and Nerdist, and we love the multi-platform synergy on a project like this,” AMC’s EVP Original Programming & Production & Digital Content Joel Stillerman said. Added Hardwick, “It has always been one of our main goals with Nerdist to grow content in the digital garden of the Internet which we could then evolve onto other platforms.” All Star Bowling, which is expected to start off as a special on AMC, is being produced by Nerdist and High Noon Entertainment, with Nerdist’s chief creative officer Hardwick and CEO Peter Levin as well as Jim Berger serving as executive producers.

These guys sure talk a lot about “platforms.” A huge problem with the Nerdist brand is that–apart from interviews with various other content creators–there isn’t much there. Their big move was this BOWLING show? Feels like Legendary got sold a bill of goods.
Well, actually, we produce 22 podcasts many of which are the most listened to podcasts of all podcasts, ASB is now at AMC, Nerdist TV show is at BBC America and there’s a pilot we shot for Comedy Central. The YouTube channel has produced about 40 shows (which are not, as you puzzlingly theorize, just interviews with other content creators) in the last year and we went from 0 to 350,000 subscribers in less than that time. Soon, we’ll be announcing our first feature. Course of the Force is a pretty huge annual event that leads up to SDCC and is a partnership with Lucasfilm that raises a lot of money for Make-A-Wish. There are also other things we’re working on that I can’t mention. Emotionally, since you seem so invested, I wake up every day in utter disbelief that I have the gift of only working on stuff I love and with people that I respect. It’s been an incredible couple of years with more to come. As far as “selling a bill of goods,” that’s just an ignorant comment based on literally zero information and you know it. We’re a low overhead, high output company. We make a lot content that folks seem to enjoy. Very simple. Did you know any of this, or did you just feel like being typical for the Internet by making a negative comment based on a largely un-researched opinion?
C’mon, man! Be BETTER than that! You’re obviously smart. Don’t choose ignorance just so you can brush things off to make yourself feel above everything.
Ok now let’s hug it out!!! Now go have a nice day!
Personally I love that this is coming to regular TV, and on a channel I get in Canada. I can only hope the series you are doing for BBC America gets picked up by Space up here like the specials were. ASCB is one of the shows on the Nerdist channel that I watch regularly, as well as Puppet Dreams.
I’ve been with Nerdist since Podcast #1 and I am amazed by how you have branched out your brand. Every bit of success I know you work hard for and deserve.

Chris, you don’t need to respond to ignorant internet commenters with facts, logic, and evidence. And you complimented him at the end. He didn’t deserve that! Be Yonce.
When I grow up, I want to be Chris Hardwick.
Thanks for all you mention in the above – plus some. The amount of work you do always makes me feel like a lazy oaf (and concerns me that you aren’t getting enough sleep).
I ignore most of the Nerdist stuff on YouTube, but have always enjoyed Celebrity Bowling. They will need to get some people that the masses actually recognize, however (Walking Dead and Breaking Bad casts are anomalies to who they usually have).
always wanted bowling for dollars to resurrect itself…so basically combining that concept with battle of the network stars? i’m in. how does one get one of those fancy skull balls Hardwick has?
Sad to see AMC embracing the shit side of the business.
They’ve just rolled out a competitive taxidermy show, run a minimum of 3 hours of CSI: Miami daily and you draw the line at Celebrity Bowling?
AMC gave up on two thirds of being American Movie Classics a long time ago. The only question left is when they start originating from overseas. They’re doing some amazing things Sunday night – most weeks. If they do different things to reach out to a wider audience, more power to them.
I was actually excited to see amc extend the talking dead format to an hour…it makes for really good tv. Glad to see even more of it online. Have to check out the bowling show. Sounds fun though. I want more of that NPH show! That was a good time and hes brilliant to watch
Dam Chris Hardwick has done one hell of a job growing Nerdist..Insane how far he has come
Love to see this…good for both camps
This is awesome news! All-Star Bowling is my favorite show on the Nerdist Channel. The Mad Men episode was pure genius. Congrats to AMC and Nerdist. Well done.
The funniest part about this sale is that it will result in multiple lawsuits from idiots who “created” this “idea” and pitched it at a urinal to a friend of one of the Nerdist guys or their agents when in fact it’s a total MOP. Good for these guys for using the relationship to get it sold, and I encourage those who think their idea was “stolen” to head back to Starbucks with their laptops and come up with something original.
Love the Nerdist Bowling show. If the last episode with Conan O’Brien is any indication, this would be an incredibly fun series.
Just what the world needed. More of Chris Hardwick and his frat boy style of nerd culture.
All Star Celebrity Bowling is a fun show that benefits charity. So bitch all you want, it’s a good thing. Breaking Bad and Walking Dead are anomalies? They’ve had Conan, Workaholics, the guys that built the mars rover, great comedians, and a lot of web personalities. Imagine who they will get when it’s a real show and not a 10 min YouTube video. I’m all for it and all the other fun stuff that Nerdist does.
Where is Milton Berle when you need him? This format has failed a number of times in the past. Berle hosted the most famous failure, “Jackpot Bowling”.
Bad Hardwick!!! Don’t feed the trolls!! I for one can’t wait to see this on AMC. I’ve always thought the YouTube version was too short. This assumes the TV version will be a half hour? You just keep making your awesome content and do what Pinky and the Brain do everyday.
Nerdist is becoming what I watch along with geek and sundry (table top is awesome weirdly enough) I LOVE YOU CHRIS!! But like in a non gay way
This will be awesome I have always wanted more then 10 minutes of All Star Celebrity Bowling.
Yeesh…in a sea of negativity, I actually see this show staying afloat. I was never drawn to bowling on tv no matter who was on it, but the bowling videos on the nerdist channel are entertaining to watch! I’m an internet denizen with a strange sense of humor so i don’t know how the televiewer will like it, but gl on that endeavor chris
This is super exciting! Can’t wait to see which ‘all stars’ come out to play on a cable version of the show. Hope it raises even more money for charity, too.
Important question: what happens when you get paid nothing to produce a web show and then they sell it as a TV show? Do I get money for the TV show? Is this the new model of getting around paying competitive rates and working with unions? The Producers Guild does not deal with salaries. This model will ruin the business.
Ohhhh, Chris…I love you. Will you tell me a story if I insult you?
…I can do that.
Great answer Chris. Personally I love NPH Dreams of Puppets, and of course the hostful podcasts.
Good for you and all involved. Have at it and keep it coming. Why not subvert the dominant (entertainment wormhole) paradigm and have fun while you’re doing it too?
Right becauses no one has ever heard of Mad Men, the Mythbusters or Conan O’Brien. Even the lesser known ones are still pretty well known, Doctor Who, Reggie Watts, Marc Maron, Felicia Day, Epic Meal Time.
Love the work you guys do over there at Nerdist, would love to see this on AMC!
As a fan of all things Nerdist I think this is great news for Chris and the team and I hope the show does well. As a Brit I can only assume that this means I will no longer be able to see the show as its unlikely to be sold to the UK market, but deals and partnerships like this will only strengthen the Nerdist brand and result in other great content for me to enjoy in the future.
Good luck to all involved in the project!
