Andrea Anders is set as the female lead in ABC‘s multi-camera comedy pilot Divorce: A Love Story, from Sony TV ABC Studios. Written by Mike Sikowitz & Daniel Lappin based on an Israeli format and directed by Pam Fryman, Divorce centers on Kenny and Robin (Anders), a recently divorced couple, who were bad together but discover they’re even worse apart and can’t seem to stay out of each others’ lives. This marks Anders’ return to ABC where she starred on Better Off Ted and Mr. Sunshine.
Dustin Ybarra has been cast in Friends & Family, Fox‘s single-camera comedy pilot from writer David Rosen, Sony TV and BBC Worldwide Prods. Based on the UK series Gavin & Stacey, Friends & Family focuses on the key life moments for Gavin (Jason Ritter) and Stacey, who try to maintain their relationship while combining their polarizing families’ lives. Please a character description and rep info below. Ybarra, repped by CAA and ATA Management, will play Smithy, Gavin’s roommate and friend, living with him in their New York City apartment.
James Martinez (Breaking Bad) has joined CBS’ Intelligence, CBS‘ drama pilot from writer Michael Seitzman, ABC Studios and CBS TV Studios. It is centered at U.S. Cyber Command and focuses on a unit that has been created around one agent with a very special gift — a microchip has been implanted in his brain that allows him to access the entire electromagnetic spectrum. Martinez, repped by Stone Manners Salners Agency and Sweet 180 Management, will play Gonzo Sanchez, a muscular Federal Investigator.

Andrea Anders = show killer
Maybe if she, David Walton, Bret Harrison and Kyle Bornheimer all got cast in the same show, their combined unlucky mojo will synergize into at least three seasons.
Add in Paula Marshall too
YES!!! I’m very happy to see Andrea Anders signed on for this series… she’s one of my favorites. Better Off Ted was a really charming show, and she was terrific on it; she and Portia were crazy and fun on that show. I still miss that series.
I wish Mr Sunshine had lasted longer – a nice show that just never came together; in fact, I don’t think they gave Andrea enough screen time.
And as I read this article, I see the director for the pilot is none other than HIMYM’s Pamela Fryman – WOW – that woman is golden – a genius!! I love Pam – her work on HIMYM is top notch. Everything I read about HIMYM, the people in front of and behind the camera, they all say the same thing – “This series is a success and a joy to work on because of Pam.”
With both Andrea and Pamela on board, I feel very good about this pilot’s chances for success at ABC. I wish both ladies and the team behind this pilot great success and look forward to seeing this pilot go to series!
…and I just noticed, Andrea’s character’s name on this pilot, ‘Divorce: A Love Story’, is “Robin”. ROBIN! Another “Robin” for Pamela to direct!! Now that’s gotta be great karma and good-luck-mojo! This pilot is no-miss … ABC, place this pilot-to-series at 8:30pm on Wednesday on the same night as that other HIMYM charmer, Sarah Chalke’s “How to Live w/Parents”.
To all those who’ve been railing about multi-camera shows being stale, dated, atrocious, etc, Divorce is your poster child. I’ve read most of the network comedy scripts and this one’s as bad as it gets. Feels like it was written in 1987. The couple rips each other about how they can never get together again… then smash cut to them in bed after sex. Not surprising, not clever, not funny, not good. You writers are better than that, aren’t you? Aim higher.
But Nero the TV Fiddler is so excited about the project!
I am excited about this show, and I want you guys to know that I’m not a liaison to anyone on the series, not someone’s distant relative angling for a job, nothing like that. Although, if they are looking for someone to deliver the pizzas to the set…
Look, I understand what you guys are seeing in the loglines – the scripts can appear to be ‘flat’, somewhat ‘vanilla’ – the same-old-same-old concepts. There’s a lot of truth in that. But the goal of pilot scripts is to get these vanilla loglines formed into something that can entertain test audiences for a half-hour; if they can do that, then they’ve got a chance to go to series.
That’s why James Burrows is directing multiple pilots – the writers, producers and networks trust him to pull together all the elements for this one 1/2 hour shot at going to series. If anyone can do it, James Burrows can do it.
Pamela is in the same mold – they are bringing her in to be the ‘James Burrow’ component – someone who can make this show roll. And Andrea is a good actress who is captivating – they need to connect this pilot with the test audience in that one 1/2 hour shot. Andrea can do that.
I do see the irony however in what you guys are saying; two of my favorite actresses are notorious ‘show killers’ – Andrea and the lovely Paula Marshall. Nevertheless, I’d take my chances on those woman any time of the week.
It will be fun to see which shows get picked up – but, I’m going to double down and bet on this show and Andrea and Pam. If I’m wrong, I’ll be the first one back here to say I goofed, but I’ve got a good feeling about this one.
Andrea Anders knows all about divorces, given her experience causing them. Let’s hope this pilot bombs and she never gets acting work again. Immoral tramp.
I’ve had the privilege of working with the amazingly wonderful and talented Pam Fryman on HIMYM and she is one of the greatest, classiest, and best directors around. So happy for her. Anyone that gets a chance to work with her is one lucky actor!
