The Art Directors Guild (IATSE Local 800) said today the first-ever program will kick off Monday. The ADG’s Art Directors Council, headed by Jack Fisk, John Iacovelli, and Thomas A. Walsh, created the initiative to match aspiring production designers and art directors with professional guild mentors. Participants selected from college, university, and recent graduate applicants will receive workplace training in film, episodic TV, reality TV, commercial, live event, and theme park art direction. After training for a required minimum of 260 work days, ADG apprentices may be eligible to join the organization with the title of Assistant Art Director.

What are the qualifications to be a mentor? I think they should take a test on communication skills. If their outline for the class is as scattered like a shotgun blast when they attempt to choose a location to film, I see a student revolt. There are designers that see the big picture. And then there are those that tend to dwell on the door knob of the hero’s apartment set for example. Will he/she be more of a technocrat or a a visionary that can’t tell you what he wants. It’s in the egocentric part of his brain. Whereby, he creates havoc and cost overruns for everyone. Be sure to have one with a sense of humor as a mentor. Nothing like being around a productions designer/Art Director that is a #2 pencil. Good Luck with your program..by the way does it cost? Do they get paid in the workplace training situation? Shit they are not interns? What about exsisting Art Pa? Will they be replaced by these wannabe Michael Rivas or Henry Bumsteads? Hope this is thought out. BETTHEDUCK
How do I apply to this program?
How can I apply for this program
With two hacks running the union busting program it should be fantastic. Oh boy. Can’t wait to work with people they “train”.
Yes, how do we apply?
I am a nyc based production designer for short films and music videos and would love to learn how to apply.
