In a bid to build a new franchise akin to its Underworld series, Lakeshore Entertainment has secured rights to Jonathan and Joshua Luna’s graphic novel, The Sword. The female-led revenge story is divided into four volumes and the first installment is expected to go into production this year with Lakeshore’s Tom Rosenberg and Gary Lucchesi producing.
Story follows a young paraplegic who leads an ordinary existence until her family is brutally murdered by a mysterious trio. Escaping from the assassins, she discovers a sword that restores her ability to walk and grants her physical powers. With her new weapon she sets out on a journey of brutal retribution. The Luna Brothers are known for their penchant for female protagonists including Spider-Woman, Ultra Girls and The Sword. They and the graphic novel rights to The Sword are repped by CAA.

Well if they are going to use a blond. Best bet its just going to be some lame chick series.
Jennifer Lawrence would probably be the best pick as the leading lady.
seems like a rip off of kill bill or could be the other way around
Great news! The Sword is a terrific story, the epic fight scenes from the comic should translate perfectly to the big screen. I hope they make a Girls film someday…that one blew my mind.
Kill Bill; the comic book.
I’m so excited for this! I love underworld!
Can’t wait to see Lakeshore’s The Sword! Being a huge fan of Underworld, I’m sure this movie will be just as popular and a hit with Underworld fans!
Not sure how I feel about this. People assume it will be a Kill Bill-like story but the series is quite a bit more than that and explores the consequences of revenge and violence in a superpowered storyline.. I’d love to see someone like Josh Trank, the director of Chronicle, for this. It needs someone who can bring this in lean and mean.
