Leverage alumna Beth Riesgraf has been cast in CBS’ drama pilot Surgeon General. Written by Samuel Baum and produced by CBS TV Studios, the project centers on Dr. John Sherman (Jason Isaacs) — the most powerful doctor in the nation, the Surgeon General, who has 315 million patients. Riesgraf will play Dr. Page Wyatt, an expert in microorganisms.
Rafi Gavron (Snitch) and Anisha Nagarajan have joined the cast of Bravo‘s hourlong pilot Rita. Written by Krista Vernoff and directed by Miguel Arteta, the family drama follows Rita (Anna Gunn), an acerbic, outspoken private-school teacher who struggles to raise her three teenage children while dealing with the inane bureaucracy and overprotective parents at her school. Gavron, repped by Affirmative and Nelson Davis Wetzstein, plays Rita’s cool, easygoing eldest son; Nagarajan plays an eager new teacher.

Loved Anisha Nagarajan on Outsourced! This show’s cast is starting to look really exciting…
I was meh on her until she sang in that 1 episode. Then I fell in love..
Anisha!!! So excited for her!
Congrats to Beth, looking forward to seeing her on this new show.
Isaacs is a decent-enough actor but he does seem a bit young for the role, dramatic license notwithstanding of course. But another Brit cast in a very American role? Can you major in an American accent at RADA now?
There seems to have been an increasing number of Brits playing high-profile roles as Americans – Homeland, the short-lived Made in Jersey, etc. And while he is an excellent actor, Daniel Day-Lewis was cast as one of the most well-known American presidents. Would his country of birth made any difference if there were an equally gifted US actor?
Here’s the thing – some roles could use a Brit actor using their native accent, rather than faking it. Why not an ex-pat British becoming US Surgeon General? That might even be more interesting.
There doesn’t seem to be as many Americans are playing Brits faking a British-style accent. Eceptions include Robert Downey Jr (Sherlock Holmes), Meryl Streep (Margaret Thatcher), and Renee Zellweger (Bridget Jones). How would the Brits feel about an Yank playing Doctor Who?
Would his country of birth made any difference if there were an equally gifted US actor?
Thing is… There isn’t!
