Well, that was no surprise. MTV said today that it has picked up raunchy freshman series Buckwild for a second season. The announcement comes just one day before Thursday’s season finale of the hit reality series about a group of small-town West Virginia thrill-seeking young adults. Called “The Jersey Shore Of Appalachia”, the controversial series debuted on January 3, 2012 to an audience of 2.49 million viewers and a 1.4 rating over its back-to-back episodes. That was over a million viewers more than the 1.375 million who watched the premiere of Jersey Shore in 2009. Buckwild has averaged 3 million viewers an episode in Live +3 in its first season. Late last year, Buckwild attracted some of the controversy and the political spotlight when Sen. Joe Manchin III (D-WVa) called on MTV to “put a stop to the travesty called Buckwild.” Obviously MTV decided otherwise.

I have to disagree with you. Never has grammar been as bad as now. Every day I hear young people saying things such as “Me and Mary went to town” or Me and Bob like to go there” That is merely one example of such poor grammar. Are students not taught grammar in school anymore? It should be “Mary and I….” or “Bob and I…” I even hear tv announcers using “me” — when did this expression of speech start?
This marvelous news shall come as a great relief to those imbeciles, aged 8 thru 15, who love this garbage. Kudos to those very special moronic parents that allow their stupid progeny to watch it. Yes, both parents and their little morons are the salt of the earth..Thanks MTV .
It actually has very strong 18-49 year old ratings which drives advertising and is the reason that it was renewed.
I find that very hard to believe. But then again there are enough adults of all ages that possess a roon temperature IQ and that is a requirement for viewing this rubbish.

I love the show and the kids
I saw a recent episode where the girls wanted to fill a waterbed with water. So of course they drug the empty mattress down to the creek and tried to fill it there. When that did not work, they tried pouring buckets of water from a second story window into the waterbed. This show is so concocted by the MTV producer.
I grew up about 3 1/2 south of there in the hills of Appalachia. And, yep! Dat’s how we roll. No GTL — BMG! Beer, Mud, and Guns!

The governor of West Virginia came out and said this show gives the state a bad name, and works on stereotypes. i dont believe thats true at all. these kids act no differently than kids anywhere else. im from Ohio and i can see all kinds of things i had in common at that age. its a good show

Says Kurt, the person who has probably never left the United States. What goes on in other countries on the news is also a misrepresentation of other countries based on the biases of the media outlets presenting their “reporting”, the same as the claims of selective misrepresentation of West Virginia by this show. I don’t care what’s on t.v. because I don’t watch t.v. anymore. What I do care about is the negative influence shows like this portray to the younger generations who don’t know the dangers inherent in these types of behaviors due to the glamorization of these behaviors seen on shows like this one. I am in the military and have lived in 6 countries now, and it bothers me when I come home to the US to see playgrounds empty as I drive down the street because kids are all indoors with their video games or watching t.v. instead of exploring, playing, or doing something proactive. Singular shows do not credibly influence the perceptions of the rest of the world to bias their opinions of the US; however, continuous production of garbage like this show that it’s not isolated instances of immature behavior anymore, there are shows that negatively display the lazy, dumbed down youth in the US on numerous networks now. That is the reason so many people comment to state their horror at the continued trends of networks like MTV to capitalize on this glamorization.
I am from Australia and bloody love the show, all the kids and what they do for fun. Guess what all you out of touch/reality people out there……….At least they are having fun, doing their own thing and not sitting on the computer/FB etc like most of us boring people. These kids don’t care what they look like, no makeup, no fancy clothes and are just themselves. Get over ya selves people, this is what they do for fun an not commit crimes.

Buckwild and Deadline Hollywood both bore me and the morons that say they like this show are what part of the US has become. These kids do what the producer thinks will appeal to his audience, which are completely neanderthals. I did watch part of the first episode in order to comment on it and the people who enjoy it. Both are trash and you know where trash belongs.
Every one of the “reality” shows I tried to watch were so nauseatingly phony it made one fantasize about urinating on the heads of the producers. But this one, despite having strings of corny contrived situations actually has likable characters, what went wrong! I’m an ol Jersey boy born and raised, and I can promise you the “Guidos” I grew up with would have shunned that bunch. (you do remember the show don’t you, the Snookicapades starring a little smartass who never even saw an Italian before being brought here from South America) OK, so I’m not a big fan of Ms Polizzi, but I actually wish her well (and wish I had her money) I’m not a PR man for this latest exposition of fringe behavior, and not really interested in the show, but it is kind of refreshing to see something on pop tv that’s a little closer to middle American values.

Actually Ra it’s not the kids he’s ashamed of, he more than likely engaged in a little rowdiness himself many elections ago. It’s the way the industry intentionally presents them as hillbilly dolts. But then most of us can see through the camouflage clearly enough to recognize the agenda behind it. Try it sometime, it’s rather enlightening.
