EXCLUSIVE: Twilight helmer Catherine Hardwicke has signed on to direct CBS’ drama pilot Reckless, a legal soap executive produced by Ghost Whisperer producers Ian Sander and Kim Moses. Written/executive produced by Dana Stevens (City Of Angels), Reckless is described as a sultry legal show set in Charleston, South Carolina, where a gorgeous Yankee litigator and a Southern City Attorney struggle to hide their intense attraction while clashing over a police sex scandal. CBS TV Studios is producing. This marks the pilot directorial debut of Hardwicke whose only previous TV gig was directing an episode of AMC’s period Western Hell On Wheels last year. On the feature side, in addition to the opening installment of the Twilight franchise, she has directed Red Riding Hood, Lords of Dogtown and the upcoming Plush. It has been a stronger than usual pilot season for female directors in the drama field, which is traditionally dominated completely by male directors. In addition to Hardwicke, Patty Jenkins is helming ABC’s Betrayal and Lesli Linka Glatter is directing CBS’ Anatomy Of Violence.

It’s not often the name of a pilot and the behavior of its director are so perfectly aligned.
hardwicke is a great choice for the show. sander moses is on to another successful tv franchise.
This is actually BAD news for the pilot because Hardwicke is more famous for NOT directing Twilight films than she is for directing just the first (and not even mediocre) one. Her next feature didn’t fare well and overall her reviews as a director have been very much less than stellar.
she may do better in television with a shorter product to deliver. Her vision and ability as a director isn’t exactly well suited for the big screen.
whoa.. those bangs… wtf.. those are gonna take forever to grow out… poor thing
They hire Catherine Hardwicke for a legal drama when they could’ve picked up a legal drama from David O’Russell? Sure there may be script issues with either project — but my what a colossal creative misstep. O’Russell elevates a project, and pulls out award worthy performances– what can we say about Twilight and Red Riding Hood? Unwatchable. This sounds like a train wreck.
Female writers were shown the door this pilot season. It’s safer to hire a female director who directs one episode than a female to be on staff a whole season or to create a show. How many female writers have penalties or big attachments or overall deals? Not many.
Wonderful to see more women directors at the helm during pilot season.
Feels like a network pass on series already
Looking forward to another great series from Moses / Sander Productions. They always put out an entertaining product. Hard wicks will be a nice addition to the Team.
I think Catherine Hardwicke gets a bad rap. I admit unashamedly that I watched could watch Twilight over and over again and I did. It far surpassed the rest of the series. Twilight was a sweet love story with just the right music, mood, sexual tension and overall. It was a pleasure. The only downside is that the rest of the series fell far short and ruined what could have been an invaluable jewel of a series. I am truly sadly disappointed that C.H. did not direct any of the other films. It was a real letdown. I wish they could start over with New Moon and go from there. So Sad.
Who is in charge of hiring extras. And what legal paperwork is signed before filming is started. …. ? People need to. Know what kind of scenes they will be. Asked to perform prior to filming
