CBS has rounded out its drama pilot orders with a pickup of Reckless, a legal primetime soap executive produced by Ian Sander and Kim Moses. I hear Reckless landed the last CBS drama pilot spot in a contest with a couple of other contenders, including David Marshall Grant’s adaptation of the Israeli format Ran Quartet and Barbara Hall’s multi-generational family drama produced by Scott Free. In all, CBS ordered 11 drama pilots this season, including a planted NCIS: LA spinoff, up from 7 last year.
Written/executive produced by Dana Stevens (City Of Angels), Reckless is described as a sultry legal show set in Charleston, South Carolina, where a gorgeous Yankee litigator and a Southern City Attorney struggle to hide their intense attraction while clashing over a police sex scandal. CBS TV Studios is producing. The project reunites Sander and Moses with CBS, the network which aired The Ghost Whisperer, the long-running supernatural drama the duo executive produced for ABC Studios and CBS Studios. This marks Sander and Moses’ first pilot in their first development season since they left long-time home ABC Studios last summer to set up shop as independent producers.

Everyone knew the last pick up would be in house because CBS P failed so miserably this year. Throw them a bone. At least this pilot is written by a talented female writer. Love that the press release lists the runners up. Guess CBS wants to stay in good graces with them.
Barbara Hall, Danny Strong, Marg Nagle, David Marshall Grant all had first rate scripts. Sad to see the dreck rise to the top. What’s wrong with CBS? Disappointing pick ups all around. Strong, original, smart writing isn’t enough at CBS.
The problem isn’t so much that CBSP failed at developing as it is that they don’t make commitments beyond a pilot script. CBS was overloaded with WB & 20th put pilots, thus affecting what else can be picked up. I also can’t believe they would’ve picked up this legal in comparison to the Danny Strong/David O. Russell & David Magee scripts. Read the Bruno Heller and it’s pretty flat. Where’s the interesting character to launch a new network legal drama?? Don’t expect either to launch a new franchise.
WB and 20th put pilots put great scripts to death. Great writing isn’t what made the grade this year just penalties, attachments, put pilots… Don’t bother to give WBTV or Fox great ideas or great scripts. They just piss them away. Take your good work elsewhere. It’s not worth the trouble. Unless you need a paycheck.
The networks don’t care about excellent ideas or excellent writing or amazing characters. It’s a losing game guys. The networks are shooting themselves and their audiences right between the eyes.
Great news for two hard working producers with great taste in writers. Look forward to working with them on this great project.
So excited!! This pilot looks to be a very different and thrilling offering to the field of new shows. Personally, I’m rooting for a series of this genre, and what else could I have expected from the same producers that made me fall in love with Melinda Gordon. This sounds like a good ol’ fashioned drama with a sexy plot and great characters. Can’t Wait!!! And I’m lovin’ the idea of Charleston… sounds like some steamy and sexy Southern legal action coming our way soon– Bring it!
Cool, I will have to tune into “Reckless”. I was a huge fan of both; “Ghost Whisperer” and “City of Angels”. I am from the south,so, love shows that are based in the south! I also love shows filled with crime/drama & sexiness!;0)
Cool, I enjoy law shows.
Ooo, South Carolina, I love shows set in the south!
The show description sounds exciting, can’t wait to see it!
I’ve worked for Kim and Ian on several projects, and they are terrific. Very exciting news….I’m really looking forward to seeing this!
Congratulations, Kim & Ian! Really excited to see your new show. I’m so happy for my fellow “Valley Girl”
Fantastic news! Congratulations! Couldn’t happen to a classier, better pair, and I can’t wait to see the show. Fantastic news! Bring on the pilot– and the series, please!
If “Reckless” beat out those other two shows it must be pretty darn good! I will definitely tune in.
As a Ghost Whisperer alumni I’m so excited to see what comes of this. Some of the best producers to work with and I’m sure they will field a good cast and crew and bring us some great television.
This Ghost Whisperer alum is uber-excited to see this get the green light. Kim and Ian are so classy and the best to work with. I can’t wait to tune in!!!
Congrats! But I want Ghost Whisperer Season 6!
