EXCLUSIVE: The Shield alumna CCH Pounder has been tapped to co-star in CBS‘ legal drama pilot The Advocates. Written/executive produced by The Mentalist creator Bruno Heller and directed/exec produced by David Nutter, Advocates centers on female lawyer Shannon Carter and male ex-con Henry Bird who team up as “victim advocates,” going to the very edge of the law to right wrongs and fight for the underdog. In other pilot casting news, Stephen Guarino (Happy Endings), originally cast as a guest star in the NBC single-camera comedy pilot The Gates, has now been upped to a regular. He plays Brett, a gay Dad who is very much involved with the PTA. Guarino is is with CAA and Evolution. Jake Lacy (The Office) has been cast opposite Jacki Weaver in CBS‘ single-camera comedy pilot The McCarthys. Written by Brian Gallivan, directed by Fred Savage and executive produced by Will Gluck, it revolves around an Irish-Catholic, sports-crazed Boston clan and the gay son (Lacy) whose greatest sin is not his sexuality but his desire to spend less time with his family.

Before this, I could take or leave The McCarthy’s, but with Jake Lacy on board, I’m all in. I really can’t picture him as a gay character, although I suppose that’s what makes this all the better. A NONSTEREOTYPICAL lead gay character in a comedy? That hasn’t happened since what, Crumbs? (Note that I don’t count The New Normal as a comedy. Comedies should be funny.)
And congrats to Stephen Guarino, the one person that can actually make the camp gay stereotype funny.
There’s so much hate on effeminate gays. It’s truly boring. We don’t all “act straight.” Some of us prefer to be as campy as we want. Though it is true none of us ever act like a Ryan Murphy character though. But otherwise get off this totally borderline offensive topic. It’s just hate toward a type of gay person that most definitely exists.
LOL,”Desire to spend less time with his family is his greatest sin”-I can totally relate to that. Nellie, I know it’s a little off-topic,but,I just wanted to wish you( better late than never) a Happy Saint Valentine’s Day 2013.
Keep up the good work/updates. Trust me,it is greatly appreciated & so are you.
DRAMA!
(Happy Endings fans will get this.
