Following some chatter during NATPE last week, I have learned that Cedric The Entertainer has closed a three-year deal to replace Meredith Vieira as host the syndicated version of quiz show Who Wants To Be A Millionaire. I hear the multi-million pact will pay Cedric close to what Vieira was making in the final years of her 11-season stint on the Disney-ABC show, which she’s hosted from its launch in 2002. Millionaire, which tapes in advance, will continue to air Vieira-hosted originals through May and repeats through the summer, with Cedric expected to take over in September. The Millionaire gig won’t interfere with the actor-comedian’s TV Land comedy series Soul Man, which is slated to begin filming its second season in March. Cedric will shoot his first season of Millionaire in September. CAA-repped Cedric is the second member of The Original Kings Of Comedy standup troupe to be recruited to host a syndicated game show, joining Steve Harvey who has been on Family Feud since 2010.

I thought I read in The Post last week that while he’d be taking the job, it would actually be much, much less than Meredith was making, $1.5 mil against her $9 mil, since ABC doesn’t want to put out too much money for these hosts anymore.
Remember when comedians got primetime sitcoms instead of game shows? Makes me wonder what will happen when Pat Sajak and Alex Trebek retire. Not saying it’s a bad choice, just a weird one.
Great move. Stand up comics think fast on their feet. Way to go, Ced!
Seriously, is this the best they can do? What next? DL Hughley hosting Jeopardy after Trebek retires and Martin Lawrence hosting Wheel of Fortune down the road? I’m surprised Millionaire is still on the air.
Meredith’s last program will be the last one I will watch. Who the hell really thought Cedric would be appealing to this type audiance?? So long to a program which I really had enjoyed. Cedric is enough to make me go to another channel.
What is wrong with these producers? Who on earth is going to watch Cedric the ####. No one knows who he is, or cares. Why is Meredith leaving anyway?
I will not watch Cedrick the Entertainer on How to be a Millionaire. I can not see him as the host of that program. He is good as a comedian but not as the role of a host. I hope it is not just a rumor. I thought I saw Ann Curry (I might of spelled her name wrong) was listed as a replacement. She would be good as a replacement. Whoever decided to make him the replacement should be replaced. The will see the ratings go down. I will never watch it again or my friends either.
