Columbia Pictures’ The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has set Chris Cooper to play Norman Osborn, Deadline has confirmed. Father to Peter Parker’s pal Harry, Norman Osborn is the alter ego of the Spidey comics villain Green Goblin previously portrayed by Willem Dafoe in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man films. Cooper joins baddies Paul Giamatti as Rhino and Jamie Foxx as Electro in the sequel, which director Marc Webb is now filming ahead of its May 2, 2014 3D release. Andrew Garfield is back as Peter Parker/Spider-Man with Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, joined by Shailene Woodley as Mary Jane Watson and Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn. Cooper will next be seen in The Weinstein Company’s November adaptation August: Osage County. He is repped by Untitled Entertainment.

T.J. gets another great Milton Berle role for Giamatti. It ups his quote I guess so I’m really looking forward to Louie the Lilac falling off the turnip truck for him/her in any future Batman re-boot.
Wait a minute. Wasn’t one of the problems with the last Spidey (#3 with Tobey) was the presence of too many villains? The same problem happened with the last two Batman films (not Nolan, but Kilmer and Clooney). Among those films problems were – again -too many villains.
The Marvel films usually get this right, having a strong antagonist/protagonist relationship, not generally mucking it up with too many players.
I am holding out less and less hope for the new Spidey #2.
that’s because this is not a Marvel film, this is a Sony Pictures film and, yea, i don’t have much faith in the sequel either.
in fact, im sure a lot of people don’t.
Rhino is a second tier bad guy and can not hold an entire film. The second film might be the down fall of Norman and the third film might be him as the central bad guy. If they are going the USM route it will be a nice end.
Who is making these stupid decisions? We’ve already seen the whole Norman Osborn/Goblin thing. Christ, there are hundreds of other villians they could go with. They just lost me.
They didn’t lose you for shit. You’re there. And you don’t even know that including Norman Osborn means he’ll be in Green Goblin mode. If that was his character in the shadows at the end of ASM’s credits, then maybe the sequel just focuses on his ties to Peter’s past.
And multiple bad guys isn’t necessarily bad… it’s multiple bad guy ORIGIN STORIES that really f**k things up.
Wrong. They did lose me. And who the hell cares about Osborn’s ties to Peter’s past? Could that be any more boring? Don’t think so.
Yeah, I agree with above: too many characters in this film. By all indications it certainly seems as though this sequel is headed for the discount bin at Wal-Mart.
Just because Norman Osborn is in the film, doesn’t mean Green Goblin is. Considering what story they’re gearing up to tell, Osborn pretty much has to appear or fans would be screaming bloody murder.
Love Chris Cooper… HATE this reboot. Correct me if I’m wrong (’cause I almost walked out of the last one) but didn’t they essentially make Spiderman more like Batman, reliant upon gadgetry to spin webs, etc. instead of morphing into a spider-like human from the spider bite? Uggh… who cares. Why am I even typing this??
I love that there’s no need to say Spoiler Alert about any of this stuff, who the villain’s identity is, etc — because we all saw this same movie a couple summers ago.
They’re ruining the only logical explanation of a villain who can materialize in and out of jail cells-
MYSTERIO!!
Mysterio is all the villain you need to hold an audience captive throughout an entire movie.

One thing is for certain the baddies in this film will be electro and rhino norman will be one of the primary chaaracter who is the string puller in the mocie and in the third one he will be primary antagonist and the same with black cat, harry andand mj they will only set for future sequel
He’s probably still kicking himself for passing on the role of Jim Gordon for Nolan. But this isn’t the solution, Chris.
