EXCLUSIVE: Bad Advice From My Brother, a half-hour comedy project based on Jordan Pope Roush’s blog of the same name, has received a cast-contingent pilot order from Comedy Central, where the project was originally set up last April. Written/executive produced by Roush and executive produced by Brad Copeland (The Inbetweeners), the project follows the adventures of two brothers: Jason, the older, not necessarily wiser brother who has spent most of his post-college life chasing women and the almighty dollar on Wall Street, and Ben, his younger brother, who moves to Manhattan to live with Jason. Jason sees this as an opportunity to reflect on his mistakes and steer Ben onto an opposite path. Unfortunately for Ben, Jason’s advice is usually misguided and creates more problems than solutions.
The pickup brings the project full circle. Roush originally intended to write Bad Advice, which is based on his relationship and experiences with his younger brother, as a spec TV pilot. But his digital media agents at UTA and manager Trevor Engelson, who executive produces the Comedy Central pilot, suggested that he instead write a blog, which would help him develop an audience, find his voice and make the property easier to sell. The blog, written from the point of view of the younger brother, launched in fall 2010 and continues to post updates.

One of the best. Great move by Comedy Central.
Sounds a lot like Neil Simon’s ‘Come Blow Your Horn’. What’s that? Exactly.
I read this pilot…its hilarious! No doubt will be a hit! Looking forward to watching this one!
I am so confused. The blog is terrible (as in, not at all funny) and gets no web traffic on word press or tumblr. It’s the most basal, LCD “humor” ever, which, ok, fine- that’s certainly got an audience on CC- but this isn’t even funny in that sense. So how did this guy a) get an agent at UTA and b) turn this awful blog into a series? I’m not trying to be negative- I hate negativity on deadline, it’s just sad and reeks of sour grapes- but I truly don’t understand this at all.
I concur. There is nothing funny, clever, or even remotely witty about the blog. Sadly, the current state of comedy is in a sad state. And no that was not meant to be funny, clever, or even remotely witty. It just is what it is… Porque, Trevor, porque?
Then don’t watch it, Internet troll.
Confusing. No script … Just a cast contingent pilot based on “blog”! You gotta be kidding me. It says … “Full circle” ie he had intended to write a pilot … But opted not to.
Smoke and mirrors and another whiff. This is a far too traditional sitcom for Comedy Central. It’s like what Fox develops a thousand times and never runs with.
There is a pilot. It’s hilarious. What the article says is his agents thought it’d be a good idea to start a blog first before writing the pilot… which he eventually did… and is now at CC…
Wait til you see the amount of bagel jokes in the pilot! Astounding. Dude goes on a strictly bagel joke run for literally 11 pages and IT KILLS. I’ve heard bagel jokes before but not like this. Kid is a modern day General Norman Schwrazkopf.
That’s interesting. I’ve kinda felt for years like that topic was underserved. Good to hear that someone is tackling it. But does he get to everything? That last word was supposed to be in italics. EVERYTHING. Cuz it’s a bagel type.
I also read the pilot. The dialog is quick and funny. I heard they have chosen a killer cast as well.
