EXCLUSIVE: In her first pilot season in the U.S., Israeli actress Yael Grobglas has landed one of the most sought-after
roles for young actresses, the lead in the CW drama The Selection. Because of a theater commitment in her native country, I hear Grobglas, who is of French-Austrian decent, only had two weeks to audition in Los Angeles before returning home. They resulted in her booking America Singer. Set 300 years in the future, The Selection is an epic romance centering on America Singer (Grobglas), a working class young woman chosen by lottery to participate in a competition with 25 other women for the Royal Prince’s hand to become the nation’s next queen. Warner Bros. TV is producing the pilot, written by Elizabeth Craft and Sarah Fain based on Kiera Cass’ book. Aimee Teegarden, who played America in The Selection last year, is the lead of another CW pilot this year, Oxygen. Two other Selection cast members from last year, Sean Patrick Thomas and Peta Sergeant, are reprising their roles. While an unknown in the U.S., Grobglas has played the lead of a series before – she toplined the Israeli series Tanuhi (Give It A Rest). She is with Thruline and attorney Jamie Feldman.

The biggest hits begin with the less known people.
Couldn’t have picked a better lead. Kudos Yaeli
I think The Selection has a good chance getting picked up this time around. It seems that the CW has faith in it considering they’re letting the pilot film on location in Hungary instead of the usual North American locations.
I’ve never heard of this girl before but I’m sure she’ll do great.
I’m surprised they have the budget to shoot internationally.
Excited to see how it pans out.
The premise sounds bad even by CW standards. Teenage girls competing to save their lives or their family’s lives can sell. Teenage girls competing for marriage and a royal seat-not so much. The Tomorrow People and Oxygen will be weak too. With Arrow being the only new semi hit on the CW slate you would think the network would cater to grownups in the next Pilot season.
in reading the script its The Bachelor meets Hunger Games..
it was trying to hard on so many levels.
hopefully the execution is better than the script…..

How exciting! Grobglas is very unique. Looking forward to seeing where this talented lead will take the show!
Just watched her showreel online, and gotta say she’s got something special whether in hebrew or english… and can do comedy and drama. I’d bet on her for a show.
I guess it is just me, but I found the actress they cast last time around much more appealing.
We are huge fans and wish Yael the best of luck.
She is going to pull the rabbit out the hat.

Am I the only one excited by the CW’s new show ideas. Would you rather see another show about high school kids with unrealistic lives and problems. While these shows seem unexpected for the network, I think that’s a good thing. I’m not in the demo, but I’m excited to view all of the CW pilots. I can’t remember ever saying that.
I always thought Grobglas’ strengh was her comedic timing and delivery, in dramas (if you can call a second tier soap like Tanuchi – a dull, uninspiring copycat of Desperate Housewives – “Drama”) she was outshined.
Wow, she’s pretty. Looks perfect for the role. I’m glad to see The CW going with someone different from the usual females leads for their shows.
Yael,
I wish that you take the opportunity and succeed with this series. You’re amazing. Good luck and Love from Israel!
Pretty pathetic that they couldn’t pick a new comer who is AMERICAN to play a girl named “America”. Wow. How disrespectful cw.
and Paris Hilton was born in Paris, right?
She’s a great actress, that’s all that matters.
Amazing choice! From what I know of Groblas’ professional work, this girl is going to make the series. What a talent.
