The CW has given early pickups to its three strongest series — breakout freshman Arrow, flagship The Vampire Diaries and veteran Supernatural, which has had a resurgence paired with Arrow this season. All three shows hail from Warner
Bros TV and will return in fall 2013. It will be a fifth season for Vampire Diaries and ninth for Supernatural. The renewal for Supernatural became possible after stars Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles inked rich new multi-season deals last year. “We said last year that one of our goals was to establish building blocks to grow on, and now with our new hit Arrow and
fan favorite Supernatural on Wednesday night, and the continued success of The Vampire Diaries on Thursday, we’ve been able to do that,” said CW president Mark Pedowitz. “Not only do Arrow, Supernatural and The Vampire Diaries perform well on-air, they’re also extremely successful for us both digitally and socially.”
Early renewals are reserved for series whose pickup is never in doubt. On the bubble at the CW are 90210, Nikita, Hart Of Dixie and freshmen Beauty And The Beast and The Carrie Diaries, all of which have been floundering in the ratings. The pickup of Arrow, Vampire Diaries and Supernatural — all genre shows — and the network’s heavy emphasis on such fare in its pilot pickups indicate a clear shift away from soaps under Pedowitz.
Arrow posted The CW’s best series premiere since 2009 and currently stands as the network’s most watched show (4.3 million). The Vampire Diaries remains The CW’s highest-rated series in target demographics, including adults 18-34 and women 18-34, and is big hit in social media. Airing behind Arrow this season, Supernatural has seen its ratings go up 15% among total viewers from last season, 10% in adults 18-34 and 18% in adults 18-49.

Great news! Love Arrow, it has improved with every episode.
If only they had given Emily Owens a little more time. That and Hart of Dixie make a great lineup on Tuesday. Oh well, hopefully there’s good news on the way for Hart of Dixie
I agree totally!! Emily Owens was such a great show. I was really hoping they would stay with it a little longer. I was very sorry to see it go.
Love Arrow. Glad to see it returning.
OHHH I wonder if Supernatural next year would do 2014 end of the world prophecy from season 5
In Supernatural time it has already been 2014 ^-^ As they are a couple {Or more} years ahead. Seeing as we had Purgatory and such. xo
No, because we see Henry check the Impala’s tags and even comment on the year 2013.
yeah they said that, but its a continuity issue. Basically they fucked up there a little.
Look in Season five Dean got send five years into the future making Season 5 set in 2009 and end in the year 2010.
Then between season 5 and 6 we have a gap of one year making Season six start in the year 2011. Season six lasted a year and thus ended in 2012, with Season seven as well lasting a year and thus ending in the year 2013. Then we have purgatory and another gap year. which makes it 2014 when Season 8 starts. assuming that the episodes had about the same timeframe as we had while airing when Henrys episode came up it was even 2015 already in the SPN verse. The earliest that could be would have to be 2014 then. So you see Henrys comment makes no sense whatsoever. Unless you want to go into how Season seven and six lasted only half a year instead of one.
In the end they just forgot their gap years. They just looked when SUpernatural started (2005) and counted the seasons (2005+8=2013) and thats it.
These early renewals sound like bad news for the rest of the CW programs. I mean, those are the only programs I even remember on the CW. Most of their other “programming” is subpar and I’m putting it nicely. They renewed their “hits”(by CW standards),so,does that mean 90210 and some of the others will be canceled? Keep us updated Nellie, your work is truly appreciated.
Yeah Love Arrow So glad they renewed the series
Supernatural will be back for Season 9! Hell yeah. I hope, we will manage to convince CW to give us Season 10, next year. Carver has a planned myth arc and I want really bad to see all of it.
Oh my cas, season nine of Supernatural!*-* I’m dieing right now. I’m from Germany and I have to wait and I even haven’t seen season eight but I’m working on it.:D I’m so happy that after season eight it’ll not end, I think I can’t life without Supernatural anymore…
The Vampire Diaries AND Arrow! YES! *-*
Not sure how b&tb won people’s choice if they are floundering…. ARROW is the best show period! The story line, the acting, director of photography and the stunt work are film quality! More than pleased its earned early renewal!!!
I have a lot of hopes “Beauty and the Beast” will be back. It is doing much better since it came back after Christmas break and they did an arc about Vincent’s old fiancee, from before the experiment; she accidentally found him again and became a strong and gutwrenching rival with Catherine for his affections.
Awesomeness for Supernatural, V Diaries and Arrow. Hart of Dixie is a fun show. I hope it gets renewed.
Arrow is that late-night Taco Bell run after a night of drinking. So bad, yet so good.
Happy to hear about Arrow just kive love love live it! Now need to hesr that as well about my all time favorite Nikita!! Both shows are a big hit hete in the Netherlands! Fingers crossed for Nikita can’t do without it!!
great i love arrow
*shows are a big hit here in the Netherlands!* – Should be the new slogan for the CW in the fall.
The CW would be smart to drop Beauty & The Beast now than next season when it returns to even less ratings. They dropped the ball casting Kristin Kruek and the show is overall buzzless. While Emily Owens and Hart of Dixie have charm they don’t have viewers so I’d say ditch them too.
Make some room for “Amazon”!!!
How can you say that a show that won the People’s Choice award is buzzless?! And Kristin Kreuk is perfect casting. She is the most charming actress I know for a role such as this one. It has a suspension of disbelief quality, almost like a fairy tale. It is really nice to leave the real world behind and get lost in this one for an hour every week.
Oh whatever I think Supernatural has run it’s course, Hart of Dixie, ANTM, Nikita and some of the other shows should go and TYVM but BATB should STAY…Vincent (Jay Ryan) is soooooooo damn hot.
TVD Season 5 TVD Season 5 TVD Season 5 TVD Season 5 TVD Season 5 TVD Season 5 TVD Season 5 TVD Season 5 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! yay happppppyyyyyyyyy
Arrow is way better than it should be, and that’s a good thing. Supernatural just seems to get better with each season – love the stuff they’re doing the last couple of episodes – the CW should do a hunter or Men of Letters spin-off.
Really sad with Hart of Dixie – thought they would go for a “Doc Hollywood/Fish out of Water with a sassy/weird twist. Instead, it’s a soapy annoyance and Rachel Bilson deserves better.
As far as the rest of the CW……meh.
Yeeeeeees arrow will be back! Best news best show:)
As a Green Arrow fan since about the age of 10 (He’s been around for over 60 years) I was so prepared to be let down by Arrow, but the show really is fantastic. Between development and producing, I know the many, many opportunities that arise to turn a great idea into a piece of shit. Well done keeping this show as it should be.
Is that season would have end of world storyline in 2014
That greatest what would happen in the future on Supernatural
I remember Sam was suppose to be Satan in one episode Dean confort him
If the CW placed VD on fridays just like Nikita, i wonder how it’d do then? They should keep Nikita.
I really want see this scene in real time LOL!

GREAT NEWS for my TOP THREE FAVE SHOWS!
A few thoughts though:
1. Not shocked here – ratings have remained steady and are growing in most cases
2. I think ‘B&B’ is fairly safe after winning people’s choice award.
3. I have respect for HoD and even TCD if for no other reason that they fill that ‘Gilmore Girls’ void since the WB days.
4. If they want to replicate success, WHERE’S ‘AMAZON’?!?! Another DC comics-based show shouldn’t have been rolled on the heals pf this season…
“Amazon” is not out of the running. It is just being delayed for consideration in a future cycle. The people doing the pilot would not be ready with it on time.
this is the best news! i love arrow! i hope they keep beauty and the beast, it is awesome.
