British actor Toby Regbo has been cast as the male lead opposite Adelaide Kane in the CW pilot Reign. Additionally, he has landed the lead in the indie Burden. Reign, from CBS TV Studios, chronicles the rise to power of Mary Queen of Scots (Kane) when she arrives in France as a 15-year-old, betrothed to Prince Francis (Regbo), and with her three best friends as ladies-in-waiting. It details the secret history of survival at French Court amidst fierce foes, dark forces, and a world of sexual intrigue. Prince Francis is thoughtful and very nervous about inheriting his throne. He doesn’t know if an arranged marriage is what is best for him, and is having an affair. Brad Silberling is directing the pilot from a script by Stephanie Sengupta and Laurie McCarthy. Based on the novel by Tony Walters, Burden follows young Peedie Burden (Regbo) who’s full of guilt after surviving a car crash that takes his cousin’s life. French director Christian Carion (Joyeux Noel) is directing for Echo Lake. Regbo is with WME, UK’s BWH Agency, Schachter Entertainment and Karl Austen.

Merle Dandridge (Sons Of Anarchy), Arjun Gupta (Nurse Jackie) and Dondre Whitfield (The Event) have joined CW pilot Company Town. Written by Sera Gamble and directed by Taylor Hackford, it chronicles the aftermath of a scandal at a Naval
base, which touches the lives of both civilians and military personnel. The project centers around two early 20-something women — Krista (Gage Golightly) and Page — who grew up together, were once best friends, but now are on opposite sides of the Townie/Military divide. Dandridge, repped by SDB Partners, plays Louise, a Navy Division Director, whois suddenly promoted to Commanding Officer of Naval Service Affairs and and put in charge of a group of bases and personnel that’s just become beleaguered by a terrible scandal. Gupta, repped by Gersh and Untitled, will play Jack, a Navy Chief Petty Officer qhose priority is to take care of his jet maintenance crew but privately he is nursing big dreams. Whitfield, repped by Buchwald/Fortitude and Rain Management Group, will play Don, a combat-trained trauma surgeon working at the Naval base’s hospital who is troubled by the repercussions of a terrible scandal on the base.

it’s a shame the brits and aussies aren’t getting any roles this pilot season
It’s a shame that people like you are complaining about Brits and Aussies getting jobs in shows that are sold all around the world.
They aren’t being produced all over the world though.
Now with that being said, Reign isn’t set in America so this is one of the less offensive examples of the foreign invasion in Hollywood
Various American productions are produced outside the US, particularly in Canada. HBO’s Game Of Thrones films in Northern Ireland, Iceland, Morocco, Malta, and Croatia, and with 95% British actors. US TV is an international business, and non-Americans are participating in it both in front of and behind the camera, whether you and your provincial, small-minded friends like it or not.
Reign is just a soapy highly-sexualized historic mess. The script is really crappy. Company Town is way worse. By far, the two worst projects of the CW development list.
OWL – A writer of one of CW’s other pilots..
Will agree with OWL on 1 out of 2. Reign is a terrible, terrible script. Have tried to read the thing about 4 times and can’t get through. Flat, vapid teenaged characters with on the nose dialogue/childishly gossiping about boys in a way Gossip Girl would never stoop to.
OTOH, Company Town is pretty solid (much better than the predictable Tomorrow People or Oxygen). Just not sure there’s enough of a hook to help it compete opposite the other more traditional genre-y CW fare.
Sidebar, BLINK is a quite easily the most brilliant one amongst the lot.
MERLE!! <3
I hope company town gets picked up mostly because I love the diverse cast… And also I’m really up set that we haven’t seen and series where there were African American leads sense undercovers
Hey Mike – What about SCANDAL?
or Deception
Or Deception. And now Sleepy Hollow pilot.
