Veteran actor-comedian David Alan Grier has joined Bad Teacher, CBS‘ single-camera comedy series adaptation of the hit 2011 movie. Written by Hilary Winston and produced by the film’s writers-producers Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg, the pilot centers on a sexy, foul-mouthed divorcee who becomes a teacher to find her next husband. In Living Color alum Grier, repped by Innovative and Roar, will play the school’s principal. In the movie starring Cameron Diaz, the principal was played by John Michael Higgins.

A nice and funny man. He’ll add lots of laughs.
I’m with you on this one. Perfect casting for the school’s principal. He’ll be a complete nutcase and should be able to bring some outlandishly funny moments to the screen especially when dealing with the students. It’s early but I’m wondering what direction they will take with the show. Will they make it primarily about the bad teacher and her relationship with the students or will it follow the teacher and her trials with the staff and homelife? This should be a can’t miss hit but I haven’t seen a great school-centric comedy since Steve Harvey went off the air. I hope CBS makes this funny and suitable for the 8pm timeslot somewhere on their schedule.
CBS has the best dramas and the worst comedies. Weird pattern.
if by worst comedies you mean most watched comedies. then ok. not sure why they’d change what they’re doing… seems to be working.
Most watched=Lowest common denominator.
When he says worst, I believe he was referring to the fact that all cbs comedies suck.
I’m a she, not a he. But aside from that, you’re correct.
Best dramas? Formulaic procedures that appeal to grandparents?
Most annoying ever. He’s what Richard Simmons was to fitness. He was funny years ago. Has nothing left to say so just screams a lot. Kinison already did that. David needs to retire.
He’s great on the Alan Parolla podcast.
No he’s not. He’s filler. He has little to say between screams. Unlistenable. Like Jeff Ross.
Adam pushes him to go on and on in those bits. The last two times he was on he was commenting on the bit going too long.
You obviously don’t listen to that podcast.. He’s hilarious and a great addition to the cast.
Not only do I listen to it I listen to dr. Drew and Adam, Adam on cars, was involved with Adam for years. DG is funny without the screams. They are actually doing a graph thru iTunes of second by second minute by minute listener. The algorithm developed by google has shown when DG is announced most, not all, stop listening. They come back later signifying many are just fast forwarding a minute or two. DG is funny visually. Trust me, he won’t be on much longer. Kimmel even mentioned it to Adam. Nobody is happy. It’s just obxoxious. Nobody laughs at a scream.
Check out Brad Listi instead.
DAG or Adam Carolla – if you’re reading this: DAG is actually very funny on Adam Carolla’s podcast. He’s as funny as most of the guests.
The problem is DAG’s volume fluctuates wildly. When not yelling, he’s mainly speaking softly so he does not project well.
I cannot listen to ACE anymore when Dag is on. Just too painful with the screaming. When he doesn’t have anything to say he screams. No good.
Who was cast as Cameron Diaz’s character?
I’d like to know that too. I think Portia de Rossi would be perfect. She plays sexy and bitchy like no one else on TV.
They need to get Lucy Punch to reprise her role from the movie now that Ben & Kate is canceled.
That would be an incredibly wise move. I wonder if they can also get Phyllis Smith now that The Office is ending. They would just need to replace Diaz, Timberlake, and Segel if they’re sticking with the same characters in this incarnation.
I absolutely loved this script. I laughed out loud multiple times. Can’t wait to see who else joins the cast.
