EXCLUSIVE: Netflix and MRC are beefing up the upper ranks of drama House Of Cards going into Season 2. David Manson has come on board as executive producer to work alongside showrunner Beau Willimon. The David Fincher drama starring Kevin Spacey received a straight two-season pickup by Netflix when the streaming service outbid HBO for the rights to the adaptation of the BBC miniseries. Season 1 premiered this past weekend, with Netflix making all 13 episodes available at the same time. Filming on Season 2 is expected to begin this spring. Manson recently served as executive producer/showrunner on AMC’s Richard LaGravenese/Tony Goldwyn legal thriller pilot. The project didn’t get a series pickup but was left in contention by the cable network. Manson’s credits also include New Amsterdam and Thief. Additionally, he created/exec produced the TNT series Saved.

HOC USA was a POS. I hope Netflix sees this and MANY other comments! Stop remaking European television and films! The USA sucks at it. Fincher did a horrible job, Spacey, et al is awful. If Robin Wright’s face got pulled back any further she’d be another real cat woman!
HOC UK – BRILLIANT!
What are you talking about? I’ve seen nothing but raves. Stop being jingoistic. The premise works for both countries. They’re different, but still good. The Fincher version is amazing.
I agree this show is amaazing, and the right move for Netflix. I can’t wait for more.
Angry, angry Englishman. The talent and acting are excellent in this venture. Just because it’s a remake, doesn’t make it bad. Robin Wright’s face is your major criticism? Go to the dentist, get a clue, and keep your nonsense to yourself .
Hey hey hey, don’t assume he’s a Limey and don’t tar us all with the same brush. The Spacey version has very little to do with the original English series so his would-be jingoism is entirely misplaced.
I thought Robin Wright was beautiful in it, and brought talent to the cast.
I would suggest, then, that you stop watching American efforts and stick with the UK. I think the British are marvelous at what they do, but I’m equally fond of what is produced in this country. I think you’ll be hard pressed to find very many who agree with your views of HoC America, as you refer to it. I’ve seen two complaints on the FB page (come to think of it one of them very closely resembles your exact opinion – small world, isn’t it). Every other view is raving about the dialogue, the characters, the performances. One wonders why you bothered since you seem to be only a fan of UK efforts.
You, Sir, are wrong. Did you even watch the show? I think that this is Spacey’s best work. I tried to sit through the UK version and it bored me to death. Yes, Americans remake Brit TV, but we do it better. I’m still waiting on a “Life on Mars” remake.
They did do a remake of life on mars. Got Harvey Keitel in it. Its pretty good.
They did a Life on Mars remake that I was quite fond of, but it only lasted one season on ABC. I think someone else needed to handle it.
Um, it has been done, with Jason O’Mara (Terra Nova), Michael Imperioli (Sopranos), Gretchen Mol (Boardwalk Empire), and Harvey Keitel. Was written to be only one season, unlike the two produced by the BBC, with a phenomenal twist to the ending of the American version. A must see if you enjoyed the British ‘Life on Mars’.
I hope they ignore this naysaying comment, house of cards US is awesome and I have 0 interest in watching an old british show.
Why are you hating so hard on this series? i just finished watching Season 1 in a few days. I found this post because I am so anxious to see season 2. What a great series! Outstanding performance by everyone! Great job team!
I thought Season One of House of Cards really rocked it! I loved every episode of Season One and can’t wait for Season Two to arrive on Netflix. Kevin Spacey, Robin Wright, Kate Mara and the entire cast were excellent in their portrayals of their characters. The show was well done in my opinion.
I thought that HOC was awesome. I had high expectations of K. Spacey and he lived up to them. I am ready for season 2!
This is in response to the first poster, WOB.
This series premiered on February 1st, 2013. You posted about HOC USA on February 6th, 2013. My question to you, is did you watch the show in it’s entirety during this six-day period? And if so, how were you able to watch such a ‘horrible’ show? Sorry for stealing one of your verbose terms to describe the show. Your use of the English vernacular is most astonishing, I must add. Oh, and by the way, David Fincher directed two episodes (do you know which two?) and did not write a single episode, so give credit (or lack there of), where it is due.
And to everyone else, don’t think one sour pickle of a poser Brit, with wet knickers speak for us all. I am a great admirer of this series, House of Cards, as well as many American shows and cinema.
shut up while you’re behind in your witty criticisms
I am British, I love the American version cant wait for season two.
Still jealous that the wankers over the pond get upstaged?
0-0;.
They are both excellent productions in their own way.
Ferchissakes at least we’re not comparing “reality TP” shows.
Shut up you ignorant asshole. Yours is the first negative comment I’ve heard. They are both excellent… and leave Wright alone. She’s both talented and beautiful, you try being an aging woman in Hollywood and see how you cope.
Yeah we suck at it so bad. This is why we run the film industry around the world. Including your country, Get real.
And yeah we suck at it sooo bad, is why we have all your actors. Your just pissed our version in one month is getting more attention than your ever will. The AMERICAN version, well I’ll say now. OUR show House of Cards RULES!
The show isn’t amazing or anything but it is solid, with all actors doing a fine job, especially Robin Wright! I never saw the UK version and don’t really need to. I look forward to seeing season 2 and if we’re lucky a season 3 down the road. Hopefully they will make all of those episodes available at once, like they did with season 1!!
It’s a great show!, it’s better than all those stupid crime drama shows.
I mostly watch British drama and don’t care for most American television. I have a particular hatred for American remakes of British shows. They’re usually completely unnecessary and, well, rubbish.
That said, if there was ever a British show for which an American remake was justified, it’s House of Cards. First, there are subtleties in the original that simply don’t transfer well to the American understanding of politics. Second, the quality of this remake is top-notch – just as good as the original, in my opinion, even if the wonderful Kevin Spacey isn’t quite as deliciously evil as Ian Richardson.
Honestly, I question whether you even bothered to watch the new version before delivering your verdict.
@Whore of Babylon: You obviously don’t know anything about screenwriting, acting or even drama. House Of Cards is an excellent show, the writing could be a tad better but the acting is superb, oh and Robin Wright is still astoundingly beautiful.
Netflix’s House Of Cards has been adored, including by most of the British people who have seen it and commented. Nobody cares that you don’t like it.
House of Cards is fantastic! I look forward to the next season. Very well done by the cast and writers. Had me on the edge of my seat. Keep up the good work!
Willimon is nightmare to work with and not capable of the job. It’s the unhappiest set in the world. Does Manson know what he’s walking into? These people deserve hazard pay that stuck around. Fincher was a real disappointment to everyone. Wear a bullet proof vest. Stock up on anti depressants and xanax.
Hope this isn’t true. Show is brilliant and a lot of fun to watch. Hopefully behind the scenes stuff won’t derail it.
He tortured the writers room and the crew. That’s creating some bad karma. It’s not okay to treat people who are at the top of their game that way. He seem to take pleasure in demoralizing people.
LOVED house of cards. What a fucking kick ass show. Got through the whole season in 2 days.
Now I have to wait a god damn year for the next. Hurry up Netflix.
That’s EXACTLY where I am at. 5 minutes to go in the final episode of season 1. and I’ll be really missing this one. I’m not AT ALL a political series watcher. Matter of fact, I could not tell you about any political shows. Was Arnold the pig on green acres and Mr. Haney involved in secret backroom dealings with the girls over at the hotel at Petticoat Junction? That’s the only POLITICAL show I ever remember! THIS SHOW IS AWESOME! It’s got my attention, and I’m a “PROFESSIONAL” TV watcher!
If his only job is to say “Kevin Spacey’s character should stop talking to the camera” he’ll have earned his paycheck.
You’ve missed the entire point, this is a case where exposure to the original series would benefit you.
The whole point is, we’re “in on it” and the main char. is bringing us along for the ride as a partner.
Entirely enjoyable, and devilishly fun.
Having Spacey talk to the camera is one of the better parts of the show actually! Hopefully the people making this series will never take advice on how to make the show better, from people who give horrible advice!!
Robin Wright is gorgeous and frankly killing it in this role. Dumb misogynist jerk.
Huh. Couldn’t disagree more. I worked for Beau on first season and he had a vision and executed it professionally and on schedule. Was great to us. If not for geography of production and other professional commitments, would have gladly worked for him again. That and oh yeah don’t results speak for themselves? Glad so many have enjoyed the show, it has been fun. Keep watching!
Good points, Beau!
Unfortunately, you’re a nightmare. Consider yourself lucky that they didn’t replace you.
It has been an engrossing time just reading the comments, and I am amazed at how polarizing they have been. Most people (including me) LOVE it, and a few hate it. No one is lukewarm about it, seemingly. The only thing I wish is that the smoking would stop. Lung cancer has taken so many in my family, I just get nearly ill when I see these great actors injuring themselves in this way. Do the tobacco companies pay you a lot of money to do this? Or do you just think the action fits the character? It’s gross. (I love the Apple placements, though! It’s about time. PCs have been given decades of great product placements.) WHEN IS THE 2ND SEASON COMING OUT?
Totally man. Sorry your client got fired off the staff.
Fired? I couldn’t even get my guy a staffing meeting in the first place… Something about not having original samples, or that an L-Word spec “wasn’t applicable”… I mean, it’s not apples to oranges, but come on! Whatever, sorry to vent, it’s just the rep-grind getting to me… thinking about hanging a production shingle soon, though.
The Spacey video game scene was mucho coolio.
House of Cards is amazingly great!!!!! I enjoyed every episode from 1-13!!!!! I cant wait for season 2. Hurry up Spring!!!!
Everyone on that show was sucked into the psycho drama that was Beau. Fincher was not a leader. A show needs some people to step and be leaders.
Anyone know why John Melfi wasn’t asked to return? The writing room doesn’t usually get flipped when the issues were on the production side.
House of Cards is great. Watched it over a couple of days and it was time well spent. Right up there with Breaking Bad and Damages. Great stuff from Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright. Quite the coup for netflix…roll on Season Two. Watch it; you’ll love it.
Whores of Babylon is just upset because she isn’t one of the whores being used and abused in the show! She is upset that This Remake is excellent and it was made here in america. Now I’ve got 2 dollar US to see just how much of a whore you really are. Oh wait that would be over paying. I can’t wait to see House of Cards season 2 US version!
Fish stinks from the head. Beau Willemon was only a show runner because MRC and Netflix knew no better. Just ask the crew and writers who all needed the work but quit nonetheless…this guy is a delusional megalomaniac. Good luck, Manson.
What’s with all the backbiting?
The best episodes of HOC are the early ones that Fincher directed. Quality drops off with the Joel Schumacher episodes (no big surprise), after which the story gets too convoluted and the whole enterprise deflates a bit.
It’s better than most network dramas, but nowhere near the quality of Breaking Bad, Damages or Mad Men.
Yes, the UK HOC was leaner and more fun. But their entire first season ran four hours. This is a very different animal.
Willimon seems quite smug and defensive about the show in interviews. Perhaps that’s what’s driving a lot of these comments.
House of Cards is better than Mad Men and especially Breaking Bad.
I love TV series.. been watching them my entire life. I am a huge fan of breaking bad and mad men and I have to say HOC wins in my book. I love the gritty politics, and how we are “along for the ride” as a partner with francis. Great show so excited for season 2.. but to say breaking bad is better then HOC? You are out of your fucking mind.
Beau Willimon screwed up the tone in the very first scene, when Spacey puts a mortally wounded dog out of its misery by killing it with his bare hands.
Why make the dog wounded? The BBC Francis Urquhart would have killed a dog just for snarling at him, then would have dared us to hate him. Much better character, that.
Because it opens up a thought process on his inner characters workings. It shows he can sieze an opportunity. He looks at a situation and can make a hard decision.. it makes you question is he good or is he bad? Some can argue the dog was hurt and by killing it he removed the pain from the dog and the pain the neighbors would have endured by seeing their dog in pain and having to put it down themselves. It opens up more questions and really makes you think and look at all his actions to determine his character. Fuck I’m no thought process engineer but how can you miss that?
Fantastic series! Saw all 13 in 2 days
Beautifully done!!!!
Can not wait for season wait for season 2 !!!
Bravo Netflix
Hurry with season 2….Great show!
HoC was good but it wasn’t great.
- There were a couple of episodes that were real snorefests (Ep: school library and Ep 10).
- The writing for the wife (Robin Wright) was atrocious. Was there any point to her character except to betray her husband with that vote? Boooooring. Given the stakes in her husband’s scheming her work seems pointless and stupid.
- Why does Frank kill Russo? Stupid and it goes against his character! The whole show he is logical and then he pulls a stupid stunt like this. Not believable and dumb.
Are you blind? Take yourself out of your dark hole and open your eyes to what is happening. She plays the perfect support system wife any man in power can ask for. I just came to the conclusion that I can’t explain this to you because something deeper at your core prevents you from seeing big picture. Good day sir.
this show is great.Kevin Spacey is awesome.Robin Wright also..this show will be a major contender @ emmys and golden globes 2014.
My love for keven spacey was my deciding factor in watching hoc. Half way through episode one irritated and bored I was about to turn it off but my 3mnth old was asleep on me so I sat. I sat for three episodes and by then I had to force myself to walk away. I am hooked. I finished season one this morning and the only problem is the year it will take for season two. Oh and although she is fab. Robin looks too much like Glen Close in this production.
Absolutely addictive! Excellent series.
For those of you that just “Don’T GET IT” – oh well, you’re really missing alot. Spacey speaking in the first person tells us exactly what’s on his mind & where he is coming from. Genious!
Cannot wait for season 2! Great job Netflix.
Great show….Kevin Spacey nails the lead role, and Robin Wright matches his ruthless ambition. I’m half-British, and I thought the US version was excellent! Watched the whole first season in 3 days! Now I’ve got to wait a year!
Still, I’m sure it will be worth the wait:)
HOC is the best show I’ve seen since I enjoyed Season 1 of Spartacus on Starz. The way The Underwood’s scheme and fight their way to the top is reminiscent of Batiatus and Lucretia in Spartacus: Blood and Sand. Completely different shows but similar characters that are like villains you want to ROOT for. Very CLEVER!
