It is two episodes and out for NBC‘s midseason drama Do No Harm, which has been pulled from the schedule effective immediately. For the next two weeks, NBC will air Law & Order: SVU reruns in the Thursday 10 PM slot. In terms of NBC’s longer-term options, the network could put Rock Center back in the slot or try another new drama, Hannibal, which is ready to go on the air.
Do No Harm posted the lowest ratings ever for an in-season scripted series premiere on a Big 4 network last week with an underwhelming 0.9 18-49 rating. It dropped 22% to a 0.7 last night, effectively sealing its fate. Do No Harm certainly was not helped by its 9:30 PM lead-in, which dived from a 1.9 for an Office episode last week to a 1.1 last night for new comedy 1600 Penn, which also is on the chopping block for cancellation. For other potential reasons that may have caused Do No Harm‘s quick demise, including marketing campaign, cast and time slot competition, check my POST MORTEM: What Led To ‘Do No Harm’s Historic Ratings Flop. Do No Harm joins such other series that were yanked after episodes as Fox’s Lone Star, ABC’s My Generation and NBC’s Paul Reiser Show.

Surprisingly, this show wasn’t all that bad. Oh well.
Bad show, bad writing, bad acting, bad everything. 1600 is next and rightfully so, almost unwatchable. Bob Greenblatt and Jen Salke, whaddup? Stop believing your press and get to work. This is lazy programming.
Can someone also explain why NBC hired a director whose strengths are in Broadway musicals/SMASH to direct what should’ve been a tense and dark thriller? That’s like hiring David Fincher to direct the pilot of GLEE.
I’d watch that!
I would have actually watched that. It would have been a lot better than the GLEE that’s on air now.
Agreed 100% i finaly think they’re going to get a ‘actual’ good show, and then they cancel. I have one word for NBC: Pathetic.
my friend…this is the continuing problem in hollywood especially in network television….the wrong people constantly are given jobs they have no business doing….in all sectors…people are hired on relationships rather on their track records and abilities…its sad
I like 1600 Penn. I like each character, think each actor does a good job, the directing is great, the show is well written, and each episode has made me laugh out loud. I think people are more disappointed that it’s not very satirical, and is a little goofy. But I think it’s fun.
I agree. Great 30 min laugher. Not trying too hard. Just good fun.
1600 Penn is hilarious. It is a comedy sitcom. Just fun. And, should not be expected to be anything else. If you want reality or drama, you will not find it. But, if you want a comedic escape from reality, this is it.
NBC picked up all pilots with special rules last season. That sound sexy but once you scratch the surface it’s like what didi they buy? ER could have been rebooted and it would have been so much better than this. Look at Chicago Fire getting traction. It all starts with good writing. Prime Suspect had it been allowed to find its way would still be on. They should look at script Vegas Baby sitting in their drawers or Jason Katims medical. Greenblatt is lazy and Salke has no taste and is lazy. Purlina should be digging through last years and this years development for material. Come on guys get out of your offices and read some scripts and get it together.
Lets face it they need to clean house and start all over there.
No harm done.
I enjoyed the intrigue. They could at least tried for a month so those who saw it could pass the word along. Maybe a differnt slot would have helped. It was across from “Scandal” and “Elementary” which are both established.
i liked the show and wish they would of given it a chance.
I needed something to watch while home and caught the show ON Demand. It is really good!!!!!!!!!!The previews don’t tell it all. I think it is the way it was marketed, I wish I had known sooner.
Actually, this show was really good in my opinion. I hate that they just didn’t try it in another slot.
No surprise on this news.
RIP Do No Harm, the show about hands that have a face and do surgery.
Ok – that was funny
Weird, I thought it was about a surgeon with gigantic hands trying to not kill his patients through his clumsy giant-handidness.
That’s funny. One question though: how do you shoot an episode of a show when you know it’s been canceled? Must be hard for everyone involved. It’s like cooking a meal knowing that it will be thrown in a trash bin as soon as it’s ready to be eaten. Do you even care if it’s good or bad? If you put enough salt, or none at all?
It had already wrapped a few days before this was announced.
Dude, you’re an idiot. The show is not about that at all. If you actually watched the show you’d know that it was probably one of the coolest shows of all time.
So boring. It was agony watching the first episode. It just had no idea where it was going.
Didn’t they order 23 of this show?
NBC ordered 13 episodes, and they’re done shooting all of them.
I just saw a script for the eighth episode come faxed in to my department just a few mornings ago to be prepped up for some legal research firm.
Oh, look, I believe it’s still sitting there.
Guess I don’t have to call the courier after all
~
Coat
Since there are 13 episodes are they ever going to be shown? Maybe at a different time and date?
Now, when is NBC going to air Hannibal?
No loss. That was one awful series…
But what will anything in that time period due with 1600 Penn as a lead in. if your 9:30p show loses half the office audience, you can’t get anywhere near a decent rating at 10p. They will have to cancel 1600 Penn, run a repeat of the office at 9:30p and hope for the best.
Writing was good, marketing failed this show. Such a shame.
Marketing isn’t the only problem when a show loses over a million viewers in its second airing. It was a failure all around.
I really think NBC needs to look to an outside company to handle the marketing for their fall lineup.
AIR the 4 unaired NEXT CALLER episodes!!! …or continue to over play Law and Order…. oh NBC…
‘Law & Order: SVU’ repeats on Thursdays at 10?! That’s the WORSE thing NBC could do right now in light of that crappy controversial Mike Tyson episode that just aired (plus SVU’s season 14 sucks in it’s entirety). NBC should have kept Do No Harm on schedule until they can put Hannibal on or run out of pre-canceled produced episodes, which ever comes first. This network still needs help. Dick Wolf needs to let NBC kill SVU, bring ‘Law & Order’ back and renew ‘Chicago Fire’, in that order!
No. Its the best thing they could have done and they know it, which is why they have replaced it with SVU. SVU is the best its been in years.
Just because you are vocal doesnt mean you are right about anything. You just want to get attention for your lobby group. Its pathetic.
Mercy killing.
Bring back Manimal!!
Strange but we knew it would be 1 Season. Odd canceled after only two. Need Rescue Me back Steven.
No, the writing was awful.
Bobby G, what’re ya doing over there???
Writing sucked. Acting was really FLAT across the board with all principal characters. The premise was so far-fetched it was laughable. That show did nothing BUT harm!
1600 Penn should be cancelled next its already a show killer and will kill Hannibal too if they don’t cancel it soon.
Quick, someone go on WIkipedia and make the “is” a “was”
Isn’t Len Fogge the marketing person for NBC? Didn’t he work for Showtime?
My God 2 episodes really! At least give us 4. This is crazy. Marketing sucked on this project. I had the opportunity to work on this project the cast and crew were all great to work with. It’s a sin nbc won’t give it another chance.
Im sure nit going to watch the darn suv or law and order rerun. I say change its time slot. Give it another go. Or perhaps air the rest online. So those of us that enjoyed it can finish the 1st season.
It appears that it’s only cancelled on NBC. CTV in Canada will continue to air the rest of the episodes.
So if it airs in Canada, is there any way those of us in the states can see the rest of the episodes? It would be nice if NBC could at least make the episodes available online after they air in Canada.
You can watch it online on the CTV video player but it may be blocked for those of you in the States. Here’s the link, just in case:

Thank you Barbara, my sentiments exactly!!
I enjoyed this show. I was looking forward to watching it. How can a network decide something is no good after only 2 shows? I thought Steven Pasquale was doing an exccellent acting job too! So used to seeing him as dumbass Garrity on “Rescue Me” it was nice to know he could really act. I hear it was only cancelled on NBC, and that it will still be on a Canadian station, so there are more than 2 episodes of it. So I guess it will eventually end up on Netflix or something.
This show was good and it would have found its legs with more time. Too bad networks don’t have the patience to build a smart show that’s also a hit…which this could have been. The overall cost of cutting and developing new shows to launch is greater than the cost of letting a show like this mature.
Overall I would agree with you about giving series a chance — but not in this case. There was nothing “smart” about this show, and it wasn’t maturing, it was already bleeding viewers week to week.
I totally agree with you, this show was good!! i’ve seen inly two episodes and I’m sorry not seeing it anymore.
The Idea was good, the way to tell the tory too, often by a flashback of memories…
I can’t understand how it’s possible that some other bad shows keep beeing on air and when there’s something new, it can’t have the chance to be followed.
Mr. Hyde won.
I try watch the first episode couldn’t went back to Scandel which getting good in every episode every week
literally 28 min into the second episode as I saw this.. NEXT!
