Talk about stupid lawsuits. Donald Trump has actually sued talk-show host and (fellow?) comedian Bill Maher to pay up on a joke bet Maher offered last month on The Tonight Show. Mocking Trump’s similar offer asking President Obama to release college and passport records, Maher told Jay Leno he’d give $5 million to the charities of Trump’s choice if The Donald could prove he wasn’t “the spawn of his mother having sex with an orangutan”. In the breach of contract suit (read it here) filed today in LA Superior Court, Trump claims he accepted Maher’s bet in writing the next day and provided his birth certificate – so now The Donald wants the cash for five charities. The suit says Trump’s acceptance means a contract was formed, and Maher never responded to repeated letters to pay up. “As a consequence of Maher’s disregard of his obligations, Mr. Trump has been injured by not receiving payment of the promised sum,” the suit reads. “In addition, the five worthy charities identified by Mr. Trump have been deprived of millions of dollars in donations, which they have not been able to utilize for the benefit of their constituents.” Hmm, could it be the Trump is just looking for publicity for his unwatchable NBC humilitainment show Celebrity Apprentice which premieres March 3rd? When is Comcast gonna fire this jerk?

Celebrity Apprentice unwatchable? The show is hilarious and full of drama between angry d list celebrities. I don’t like Donald Trump, but he and his ego are highly entertaining. Where else are you going to watch Meatloaf fight then cry? Or listen to Lou Ferrigno go on and on about giving (a logically impossible) 110%? Or see crazy old Joan River’s bratty kid throwing hilarious tantrums? Or see Donald Trump have fake conversations on a gold plated phone with no one on the other end just do he can act like he’s busy and important? The guy is comedy gold.
Not only is Celebrity Apprentice NOT unwatchable, it’s one of the most entertaining shows on television. I feel sorry for you if you can’t laugh at Donald Trump. What a miserable existence you must have!
As far as I’m concerned, the Celebrity Apprentice is fun and entertaining, while Bill Maher’s propaganda show is full of hate and vile language. It’s mean and not entertaining. Trump wins by a landslide. Maher = Hate.

I don’t always agree with him, and I don’t always with the folks on his panels – no matter which side of the political debate they’re on – but I listen to their myriad points of view. You should try it.
I disagree. Maher at least has a point. His intentions, whether he succeeds or not, are very obviously good. Trump is a vile and disgusting and hateful individual whose only loyalty is to himself. If you find that entertaining than you’re part of the problem.

Television is probably the most powerful medium we have, and we use it to ridicule those who are desperate for attention and turn them into grotesque “celebrities”
I avoid all reality shows…I’ve never seen even a moment of a Jersey Shore or Housewives or “Race,” etc. But I DID watch a couple of those Lou Ferrigno and Meat Loaf episodes…and they were hysterical.
Brain candy? Without a doubt. Good for a laugh? Yup. Watch on a weekly basis? Never.

I will make you a binding, contractual, non-satirical bet on that one (if it’s legal). If it goes to a jury (I might be willing to be that it won’t), there is none in this land that will decide in Trump’s favor. If the jury does, the judge won’t allow it. Because the law doesn’t call for it. But I get that you’d like it to.
I recall when I was a kid, some moron sued Johnny Carson for a joke made about him in the monologue (I think it was a farmer or something who made the news for one reason or another — someone NOT in the world of entertainment).

It’s OFFENSIVE and speaks volumes about the cynical character of Trump and his supporters that they try to claim that this is for charity when it’s simply an egotistical, thin-skinned narcissist, who I’m beginning to think has serious mental and emotional problems, trying to get attention by once again manipulatively using charities that exist for real humanitarian reasons as justification for his petty revenge. Charities should be sincerely supported not exploited for the unconscionable, selfish ulterior motives of a pompous, billionaire d-bag.
The contract is not enforceable because it was proffered in jest and was never signed or notarized. And since the word “spawned” can also be construed as meaning “descended” (and we all share simian origins) the lawsuit is moot.

Every few days you really get a sense of the level of people who frequent this site. Apparently about 50% of them feel Bill Maher is as mockable and useless as Donald Trump, and another significant portion don’t understand the difference between satire and sincerity. Or, don’t think there should be a legal difference. Chilling.

Maher is a selfish little prick and he’s going to have to cough up the five million to make this go away, his publicist and his manager will urge him to pay the money and the fact he doesn’t want to give such a large amount to charity proves how selfish he is. He can definitely afford that much and he should have written a check a month ago on the condition that both Trump and also Jay Leno give an equal amount. Leno could be called as a witness and he’ll say he thought Bill was joking. The longer Maher waits to write a check the more selfish and greedy he looks over this.
