American Horror Story and The Practice alum Dylan McDermott is set as the male lead opposite Toni Collette in Hostages, CBS‘ drama pilot from writer-director Jeffrey Nachmanoff, Jerry Bruckheimer Television and Warner Bros TV. Based on an Israeli format, the project centers on Ellen (Collette), a successful surgeon living in Washington, D.C. who is selected to operate on the President of the United States. She is thrust into the middle of a political conspiracy when her family is taken hostage, and it is up to her to save the lives of her husband and children. McDermott will play Duncan, a righteous FBI agent who is at the center of a political conspiracy involving the President but whose role will come as a surprise. On the feature side, McDermott, repped by CAA and the Schiff Co, was recently in The Perks Of Being A Wallflower and will next be seen in Olympus Has Fallen.

Sounds like they should be able to wrap that idea up in about 6 episodes. How is this a long running series? makes no sense at all. Reminds me of “Prison Break” series a few seasons ago where it took them 8 episodes to actually escape. I lost interest in that after about 4 episodes of nothing happening. This has about the same feel to it. How long can you milk the Presidential surgeon idea? My guess is not very long. Interesting movie idea, no legs as a tv show.
So true..”The Following” is good case in point…as is Revenge..these shows seem great for one season (or miniseries)but there seems to be no plan as to what to do next.’The Killing” is good example of what happens when u try and drag a story out past its expiration date.”Revenge” which was fun is now tedious.I guess they think they”ll cross that bridge when they get there
Good luck representatives of Toni Collette. How long before he walks into her trailer with a tape measure and his cell phone. There’s only one queen bee on a Dylan McDermott project.
Hopefully this means he won’t be back for American Horror Story. The plot/writing this past season made it nearly unwatchable but McDermott’s inablility to bring his character to life made him a poor antagonist. When an actor is out of his/depth it takes away any depth the show itself could have.
So true JJ, McDermott is dull as a doorknob a terrible casting choice for AHS.
I thought this role went to Dermot Mulrooney…?
Mulroney would be an improvement as – although he is dull – he can at least deliver a line properly, unlike McDermott who has to STRESS … EVERY … WORD … as if he’s trying to put the Shat in Shatner.
This show sounds good. I hope CBS picks it up.
@anonymous, I’m not sure what you mean by Dylan McDermott being a Queen B, I’ve heard he is very hard to work with is that what you mean? Can you elaborate?
