Ellie Kemper has closed a deal to play the lead in the NBC single-camera pilot Brenda Forever. In the high-concept project written by Andrew Leeds and David Lampson and produced by Sony TV, stories from Brenda Miller’s (Kemper) past and present are interwoven to give a unique portrait of how a chubby, awkward, but incredibly confident 13-year-old grew up to be a 31-year-old woman who still marches to the beat of her own drum. Kemper, who is close friends with Leeds and Lampson, had been circling the project since it sold as a spec last week. She has been among the most sought-after comedy actresses this pilot season. David Wain (Role Models, Wonderlust) is directing the pilot, executive produced by Lampson, Leeds, Matt Tarses and Fedora Entertainment’s Peter Tolan and Michael Wimer. Kemper is with WME and Mosaic.

this is the funniest pilot script out there period.
Good choice – I think ‘Brenda Forever’ just got another boost towards pilot pick-up for fall 2013. Ellie K has got great charisma and comic timing – I can certainly understand how she [and Rose Byrne] are two of the ‘It Girls’ this pilot season.
Now, how about Jenna Fischer? Perhaps she wants to take a year off before committing to another series, or maybe she’s wanting to do more feature films. But boy, if I had a comedy pilot this season, and I needed to cast a lead actress, top 3 choices would be Rose B, Ellie K and Jenna. Jenna has quietly been the backbone of The Office for the past decade. She would shine on a series of her own – money in the bank to any network or series that wanted a bankable actress.
SHE IS WITHOUT A DOUBT THE MOST OVER RATED ACTRESS AT THIS LEVEL.

Ellie is an amazing actress, kind, sweet and hilarious! She is one of the best comedic actresses out there.

There have been so many single camera shows with female leads that have reached syndication — oh wait, ZERO — NBC is just dreadful — They try to spin the unfunny Go On (awful ratings) as a success — they have NOTHING. Dear execs — fast cut patter is NOT comedy.
this is hands down the best script i’ve read. it’s like no other script out there. i’ll be shocked if this doesn’t get NBC back on the map!
