The newly revamped Esquire Network (formerly G4) has reached within NBCUniversal for its next acquired property, picking up exclusive cable television rights to NBC’s late-night talk show Late Night With Jimmy Fallon. Starting Wednesday, April 24, episodes will air on Esquire Network Monday through Friday at 7 PM, one week after they first premiere on NBC. Late Night marks the first talk show addition to Esquire’s programming slate, joining recent off-network acquisitions Parks And Recreation and Party Down, which launch April 22. The cable network, targeting upscale male viewers, also has originals Knife Fight and The Getaway on tap. “Jimmy’s sharp wit, relaxed style and natural charm make him exactly the kind of guy Esquire Network viewers want to spend time with, and his show the perfect choice to lead in to our primetime,” said Adam Stotsky, general manager, Esquire Network.
This is the first time Late Night With Jimmy Fallon will air on cable. The show’s previous incarnation, Late Night With Conan O’Brien, was once a staple on Comedy Central, also airing at 7 PM.

I’d like this even more if they were airing the show from the beginning. I’ve always thought it would be cool to have a network that airs reruns of late night talk shows, from every late night incarnation from Letterman to Fallon, Johnny Carson’s Tonight, Arsenio Hall, and heck, even a once a week lineup featuring episodes from shows that didn’t make it such as Pat Sajack, Chevy Chase, etc, but I’m assuming the reason this has never come to fruition is cause of music rights to air performances.
Clearances would be a nightmare!
It can fall under a “promotional” window. That’s how TV Guide Network was able to show reruns of the other late night Jimmy.
I don’t get it – they’re launching their rebranded network by anchoring their primetime lineup with week-old repeats of another network’s late night talk show? Huh?
Oh, and “Knife Fight” sounds like it has “upscale viewers” written all over it.
Do these people have any idea what they’re doing?
Nnnnnnnnnnnnnnope!!
Late Night with Conan also aired on NBC-owned stations, such as CNBC. And I believe Jimmy has aired on Bravo before.
According to former G4 management, the network was dropped from DirecTV because the satellite company didn’t think there was a demand for what the network was showing (also because of a bandwith pissing match).
So of course it makes sense that the “new” network should acquire something people can literally see for free 5 nights a week without having cable at all.
Uh, no. G4 was dropped by DirecTV because word had leaked that Comcast was buying into it’s parent company, NBC/U, and they didn’t take kindly to airing the competition’s content. The “low numbers” excuse was just that, an excuse, not the real reason.
Actually it was G4′s low numbers. This overhaul had to be done.
Exactly. At that time, what Direct tv didnt say was that there were around 20 other networks on Direct tv that had lower numbers than G4 did at that time. A few of these networks included other comcast owned stations like style, versus and sprout and nbc cable networks oxygen, sluth and cloo.
Well DirecTV will be kicking down Esquire Network’s door now! Fallon reruns a week later!!! People will pay extra for that!
A full week after? Why not the next night?
Awesome. One more reason to not watch this channel. Lord how I hope this whole thing crashes and burns, embarrassing everyone involved.
Why would you hope for something like that? Get a life dude.
Easy, because if it goes down it’ll increase the chances of something original being broadcast instead of repackaged fake-ality garbage & cancelled TV shows.
I suppose all the pilots they had in production tanked and this is the best they could come up with.
There you go – problem solved. Need content for your new network – go to NBC. Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, there you go. Need another show? Hey, how about ‘Guys with Kids’? That’s Jimmy’s show as well. We’re off and running! We got Knife Fight, P&R, Party Down. I can bring in Whitney. We’ll have Monday-Friday all figured out.
Pretty soon, the network will need more content for the weekend. No problem. So far so good with NBC – how about reaching into ‘the vault’ for NBC’s treasures: Here’s Boomer, Pink Lady and Jeff, The Six O’Clock Follies, Struck by Lightning.
Look at us – we’re running a network!
what is this network going to be? Knife fight? Parks and Rec? Do men watch Parks and Rec when their wives don’t make them? Will Grey’s and Scandal follow?
It sounds like an NBC dumping ground using Esquire’s money.
This is the very reason Cable has become so expensive…Another channel of re-runs and low budget fakeity shows. Most viewers will NOT watch, but WILL PAY for.
This is a great move! This will take care of everyone who wants to see Fallon but can’t because they can’t stay up late, don’t have a DVR, don’t get channel 4, and are stuck a week in the past. Brilliant!!!
Nailed it.
Goddamnit. I would much rather watch AOTS!
Ahhh, so you are the one!
I will take re-runs of Jimmy over re-runs of Cops any and everyday of the week. I do miss AOTS still. . to this day.
Forget Jimmy Fallon. It’s all about Knife Fight. That is going to be a crazy show.
I give this crap a 1 out 5!
