EXCLUSIVE: After a decade at Fox, EVP current programming Marcy Ross is leaving the network. Ross’ three-year contract is up this year and I hear she opted not to renew it and plans to return to content creation. I hear Ross, a well-liked executive, is already pursuing other opportunities but will remain at Fox in a consulting capacity for the transition, likely through the end of the season. Fox wouldn’t comment on the reasons for Ross’ exit but I hear she and top network brass have had differences. Ross was brought to Fox in 2002 by then-entertainment president Gail Berman with whom Ross had previously worked at Sandollar TV where they developed Buffy The Vampire Slayer. After a five-year stint as SVP current programming at Fox, Ross was upped to EVP in 2007. She has led the network team that oversees all new and returning scripted series, including newcomer The Following, veterans Bones, Family Guy and The Simpsons as well as American Dad, Glee, New Girl, Raising Hope and Touch. In the interim, Fox’s current series will be overseen by Shana C. Waterman and James Oh, who have been working under Ross. Ross came to Fox from Studios USA, where she was SVP comedy programming and also did a stint at The Jim Henson Co. as SVP creative affairs.

Marcy is a super woman. Whip smart and very good at communicating. It’s no wonder she didn’t see eye-to-eye with Reilly. He’s a star fucker who doesn’t give a crap about content.
In the end development chooses what to develop and then what to program, but Current is key to the ongoing success of a television series. Fox’ Current department, if responsible for the well being of their on-air programming, has been mediocre. Three quarters of the shows you site run by themselves now. Current has nothing to do with the Simpsons, Bones, Family Guy or Glee. It would be nice to hear sometime that Current actually made a show better, instead they often just get in the way. Development should stay with their shows, not hand them off. Stay with your show, develop less and keep your show on the air!
Marcy is a warm, wonderful woman with great enthusiasm and talent. She deserves great things.
LOVE her
Never dealt with her, but judging from the shows she’s “nurtured” she’s got great taste and has her finger on the pulse of viewing audience. Best wishes on her “Next Chapter”!
Marcy probably had enough of Kevin Reilly’s total BS. He develops and then picks-up crap shows and probably expected her to polish the turds he championed. Reilly is the real problem with FOX. Peter Rice will soon realize that and get rid of him. Marcy is a talented and thoughtful woman who will land squarely on her feet. Reilly said himself that he had his head up his ass. He does.
There is no classier, smarter, more artist friendly executive than Marcy. Her first move is to trust the writers, not give notes just to give notes. She’s the best and fox will suffer in her absence.
I had such a huge crush on her when she was at Sandollar.
Smart woman!!!!
She HATED Kevin Reilly…
Marcy is awesome and will definitely find a future for her many skills.
Best of luck!!!
Marcy Ross is a class act! An amazing exec and women. Greener pastures!
Very talented and a truly kind and good person. She’ll do well wherever she goes.
Marcy’s great insight and engaging personality will serve her well wherever she goes. I can’t wait to see what her next step is. How lucky that company will be to have her on their team!
