EXCLUSIVE: Tony Optican is leaving FremantleMedia North America after a four-year stint as head of the company’s scripted programming division. I hear his contract was up and was not renewed. FMNA is already looking for a replacement for Optican as well as for VP scripted development Holly Hines who just left to head scripted development and production for Participant Media’s new cable network. Under Optican, FMNA landed one series on the air, TBS’ dramedy Wedding Band, which was recently cancelled after one season. FMNA gets a co-producer credit on the CW/Warner Bros. TV pilot The Tomorrow People as the original format is part of its catalog. Mining that catalog for scripted US series will likely be among the priorities for Optican’s successor. Before joining FMNA, Optican was SVP of original programming at Sci Fi Channel and VP of current programming at Fox.

No big deal – Optican will be re-joining forces with Megatron and Optimus Prime soon.
That was fast.
Freemantle sucks. Tony’s a good guy. He deserved better.
Completely agree, Fremantle sucks. Tony did the best he could with all of the Fremantle politics and deal making messes that take up most of your time when working for that company. He is a nice guy and he tried really hard. Hope he ends up at a network.
A good, smart guy who will land well….
Both Tony and Holly were pleasures to deal with. She’s landed and so will he.
Bro to Bro, Freemantle needs a hit. They have the man to bring them out….already working there. He’ll show his scruffy face soon enough.
what else do they have on the horizon? such a huge company, could be fun.
Tony’s smart and talented – he’ll be doing great things shortly. Fremantle will double down on its scripted content commitment and is legit.
