EXCLUSIVE: FX has put in development Crash And Burn, a drama project from The Walking Dead executive producer Gale Anne Hurd and Universal Cable Prods. It is written by Jeffrey Lieber (Necessary Roughness) and loosely inspired by the non-fiction book The Full Burn by Kevin Conley. Crash And
Burn tells the story of Doc Dixon, a man trying to survive as a Stuntman during the anything goes world of pre-computer-generation, post Vietnam San Fernando Valley, California. He’s trying to save his family, hold together his union, and live to see 50… all with the understanding that if his work doesn’t kill him… the weekends probably will. This marks UCP’s first project for FX. “Our partners at Valhalla continue to bring us compelling material, and this provocative world of stuntmen in the 70′s is a perfect fit for FX,” the studio’s SVP Maira Suro said. Under its deal with UCP, Valhalla has set up several projects, including period sci-fi drama Horizon, which has a cast-contingent pilot order at USA. Lieber, repped by CAA and Madhouse Entertainment, has been the showrunner for the USA/UCP/Sony series Necessary Roughness for the last two seasons and still serves as a producer on the show. He also wrote the original script for ABC’s Lost.

Sigh. Beat me to the punch on this one. Pun probably intended. Great creative sandbox to play in.
wow this sounds really different, and interesting. FINALLY—no cops, no doctors, no lawyers…
very intriguing premise…
and great tag line” If his job doesn’t kill him, the weekends might…”
sky high production insurance!lol What actor is physical and rugged enough to pull this off currently?

This is awesome. i just started reading Jeff lieber’s showrunner rules on twitter, he’s great.
Is Lee Majors gonna be in this?
A story about Hollywood…gee, what are the chances it will ACTUALLY be filmed in Hollywood?
Anything dreamed up by Jeff Lieber is a “must watched” by me.
It’s sounds good, and has been awhile since a project like this, But “dreamed up”? let’s not go crazy – its called Hooper
This will bomb if it goes to series. Could work as a movie but not as a TV show.
