EXCLUSIVE: Gary Oldman is joining Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes, the Matt
Reeves-directed sequel to Fox‘s successful ape reboot Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes. Zero Dark Thirty‘s Jason Clarke and Kodi-Smit McPhee have already been set. I’m told that Oldman will play Dreyfus, leader of the human resistance after the apes have taken power. Fox has set the film for release on May 23, 2014.
Oldman most recently starred in The Dark Knight Rises, and next stars in the Robocop remake for MGM. He’s repped by Douglas Urbanski and APA.

Hopefully they lose. I’m tired of seeing human’s win… let the monkeys have the planet.
I want M81.
you should read the original story by Pierre Boulle …the human definitely don’t win in that
He’s a great actor – this bodes well for the movie. I was pleasantly surprised by “Rise of the Apes” so I’ll be there to see this.
They mentioned a mission to Mars in the last movie, so maybe the Astronauts return from Mars, only to discover that the Apes have taken over most (or all) of the planet (which is strongly suggested in the end credits of the last movie)
As with any disease, there may be a few people who are immune. Perhaps Gary Oldman will be one of these or one of the Astronauts. If it follows the previous Ape movies thematically – the Ape HAVE to win.
Dude that’s planet of the apes! They already made that film. These are prequels to that film. The old one not the new one.
Of course the apes win, if the humans win then its the end of the franchise. DEATH TO THE HUMANS.
I am really looking forward to this film, lets hope it’s as good as Rise of the Planet of the Apes and doesn’t follow the original film series in sequal quality.
Nice!! I hope the movie will be more like a war like that in Battle Los Angeles movie and not like jurassic park where the human will died 99% of the time. What Im talking is that we have tanks, carriers, apache, battleship, A-10 warthog, navy seal, delta, rangers, we have UN, NATO so i hope this film will be a badass!! To show that human fight to the last blood.
Yeah… no.
I thought that the astronauts that left Earth in the Rise movie were the astronauts that arrived on Earth in the original, Charlton Heston Planet of the Apes? I like your idea too!
This mission to Mars was the Icarus, which was also the name of Taylor’s ship in the original. Meant to be a loose tie in, but potential sequel plot point also.
Hopefully, this will be the battle of the immune humans against the apes in which the apes win (they have to, so that the third installment would be a better (sorry Tim Burton) Planet Of The Apes). Then the Icarus launch in Rise of the Apes, can be more than a cameo/nod to the classic Heston flick.
Either way, with Oldman onboard I’m beyond happy. He’s incredible in anything and everything he’s in. ok maybe except Book of Eli, he was good but I thought that movie stunk.
The more I hear about the movie it feels like ww are missing the film that comes between rise and dawn and its a shame ww don’t see what happened to James Francis character. I cant figure out why Fox would invest so much in reviving this franchise and then mess it up (potentially).
They need to make a sequel to mark walbergs planet of the apes! The ending of that suggested a part 2 & that looks like it could have a much better sequel that the rise of the planet of the apes! The apes were civilized!
This is one of the worst comments I’ve ever read in the history of the internet.
Ehh? Will this be kinda like The Matrix. Instead of AI/Machines, it would be Apes?
Who’s going to be Neo? ^_^
Thought the last movie was terrific; but, so was the Burton one. Too confusing … the narrative thread ain’t very easy.
@Patrick. You can’t be serious, rise of the planet of the apes was and is so much better than Marky Marks Planet of the Apes.
I am a big fan of the Charlton Heston original and in my humble opinion Rise of the planet of the apes was equal in quality.
Well, the virus from RISE did increase HUMAN intelligence too (if only briefly). There’s a good chance any human who survived exposure might RETAIN some of that increased brainpower, ala the mutants from BENEATH.
They seeded the reboot with a lot of potential.
As its based 15 years later I would guess the film is going to deal with second generation apes, capable of speech. It could actually be a very interesting film. What made Rise good was the fact that it wasn’t your typical “junk food” summer blockbuster. It actually had quite a bit of soul. I hope FOX haven’t forgotten that.
