The apps for HBO GO and sister network Cinemax’s MAX GO have finalized a deal with Apple to make the services available on Apple’s AirPlay, which enables the channels’ subscribers to wirelessly stream programming from their iPhone, iPad and iPod touch to their HDTV using Apple TV. The announcement was made just now by HBO president and COO Eric Kessler at All Things D’s “All Things D: Dive Into Media” conference. Updates to both apps are now available on Apple’s App Store.

I found something in life that finally makes me happy.
It’s about damn time!
That’s nice. Now do this without making me subscribe to HBO, which wouldn’t be such a problem if I could subscribe to HBO without subscribing to cable in general. $100+/month just for a few shows? Not happening.
I’ll get HBO shows via Netflix (on DVD) eventually so you’re not losing a potential subscriber. I’ll never be a subscriber the way cable rates are going (because of sports, of all stupid things). Since I’ll get the stuff one way or the other, might as well arrange it in a way that is less clumsy than DVD.
You can get basic cable + HBO for under 45 a month. You don’t have to subscribe to the highest tier package, DVRs for every room, etc, driving the price to over 100 a month.
Standalone HBO by itself wouldn’t be much cheaper after they factor billing, advertising, distribution, and customer service costs, (which cable currently covers all of that) into the price.
This makes no sense. If I am a subscriber that means I get the shows on my TV. Why would I play a show on my iPad and stream it back on my TV? Am I missing something?
That’s what I was just thinking! What is the point? Maybe a secondary tv that has an apple tv box but no cable box? Or a second home? Or all of your friends homes with apple tv but I bet that’s not what they are going for.
the point is HBO on demand with you cable package does not contain even a fraction of what is available on the HBO Go App, on HBO go app you have every show every made and a whole host of movies that would not be available on demand on any cable provider. Therefore yes you would stream back to your TV through Apple TV.
Unless you have DirecTV on demand you probably don’t have access to the amount of content on HBOgo. Most on demand services for HBO pale in comparison the the HBOgo library which has nearly every show HBO ever aired. DirecTV on demand comes pretty dang close tho.
Now how about putting HBOgo directly on Apple TV like Netflix and Hulu Plus are? That way I don’t have to add the step of playing on my iphone and air playing to the other Apple device.
I am waiting for Apple TV to replace cable and stream all the channels. Stupid Time Warner Cable in NY charges $200 a month. they make you get the home phone and then charge for voicemail. i dont have all the Weeds episodes only about 2 seasons on showtime. Please Apple save us from the cable monster
Who cares if it’s not on Apple TV or Roku 2- I dropped HBO since I couldn’t stream HBOGo. DirecTv will be the next to go- especially if it loses NFL Sunday Ticket. Screw ‘em.
