Star Trek Into Darkness director J.J. Abrams and his Bad Robot production company aim to team with game developer Valve on movie adaptations of the popular Half-Life and Portal vidgames. Abrams and Valve head Gabe Newell dropped the surprise announcement onstage while delivering a shared keynote speech opening the DICE Summit in Las Vegas today, multiple outlets are reporting. “We’re going to figure out if we can make a Portal movie or Half-Life movie together,” said Newell, although development is very early and further details have yet to be announced. The tight-lipped Abrams also revealed plans to team with Valve separately on a new video game. Abrams debuts his Star Trek sequel on May 15, 2013 and will then tackle Star Wars: Episode VII for a 2015 release.

NONONONONONONONONO!!!
Why not?
Sweet.
JJ Abrams is sci fi king. No one made more for sci fi genre than Abrams in last two decades. Period. But Bad robot and Valve togethor is like DREAM and i will go WILD! NERDS ARE HAPPY JJ&Gabe!!!!!
Welp, it’s officially official: nothing is sacred. Can we AT LEAST get Half-Life: Episode 3 or Half-Life 3 before any sort of talks for a movie come about?
Okay, surely Bryan Cranston is at the top of their wishlist to play Gordon Freeman. He has to be.
That, or Hugh Laurie. I think there are some fan-created images of Laurie photoshopped to look *exactly* like Freeman.
Wow. So many people have spent so long chasing this.
JJ Abrams has taken over everything. I throw in towel. I give up.
Fingers crossed for Felicity: The Video Game. I want to play Megan…or Noel.
Portal is one of the most innovative, fun, interesting games of all time. Half-life was also ground breaking. I can’t wait for either of these games to be adapted into a movie. I’m glad JJ has taken interest. The creator is sure to avoid the DOOM / Hitman treatment!
Cranston!!! MUST!!!
Dreams coming true.. Except for the JJ part, but I can live with it.
…., so the fact he didn’t name check Paramount as the go to place to mkae such a deal means that he’s ‘done’ over there?
As if slapping Paramount in the face by signing to direct a Star Wars film before his Trek sequel has even been released wasn’t enough.
