EXCLUSIVE: X-Men‘s James Marsden is the latest cast member to join Will Ferrell & Co. in Anchorman: The Legend Continues. While plot details have been kept largely under wraps, sources tell Deadline he’ll play a rival anchor and nemesis to Ferrell’s Ron Burgundy in the sequel. Secrecy has been high as production ramps up for a March shoot in Atlanta, although Christina Applegate slipped news of Kristen Wiig’s casting on Twitter earlier this month. Adam McKay is directing the December 20, 2013 Paramount release for Gary Sanchez Productions and Apatow Productions with much of the original Anchorman cast reprising their roles, including Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, and David Koechner.
Marsden most recently flexed his comedic muscles in last year’s Bachelorette and played Liz Lemon’s love interest Criss Chros on NBC’s 30 Rock. He next appears in Universal’s August crime drama 2 Guns with Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg, followed by Lee Daniels’ The Butler in which he plays JFK. He just wrapped Walk Of Shame opposite Elizabeth Banks. Marsden is repped by Brillstein Entertainment Partners and WME.

Great casting all around.
But based on the amount of ab-libbing in these films, ANCHORMAN 2 is going to be close to 3 hours long.
We can only hope. “Anchorman” is unquestionably the finest film produced in America since the “Jazz Singer.” I will wear diapers to the theater when this comes out, because the first time, I nearly shit my pants from laughing so hard.
Will…you shouldn’t be posting. I had to force a smile during the first Anchorman it was so awful. I just don’t get the appeal of Will Ferrell…he plays the same ‘character’ over and over, and does a terrible job. Ditto for Carell….their work is totally forgettable.
However, given the intellectual level of the USA this film should do enormous box office….domestically.
You must be a blast a parties.
Completely agree. Bollywood, Univision, and the BBC are so intellectually superior to anything Amerika produces.
That’s just, like, your opinion, man…
Chris Santos blows this dude away. Check him out and you’ll see I’m right.
Excellent ! Love James Marsden cute and funny !!
That rival anchorman NEEDS to be Danny McBride.
YES! If there’s one thing we learned from HER MAJESTY, it’s that audiences just can’t get enough of Danny McBride! The people demand more Danny McBride!
checked out Chris Santos he doesn’t look very talented to me…. he hasn’t worked since 2009.
Holy shit. That is the single most brilliant thing I’ve ever read. Today at least.
James Marsden is a triple threat talent and he has a gift for comedy, drama, and action. Also, he is incredibly charismatic. Marsden should be having a Matt Damon type of career. This guy is more watchable than Brad Pitt and Leo DiCaprio.
Yes, but too bad all that talent is going to be wasted on Anchorman 2.
Anchorman was an awful movie. I see no need for a sequel…
Which rival studio put that on the TelePrompTer?
I see what you did there, neeto
