CBS has won the Jason Isaacs sweepstakes. The Awake star, who was offered virtually every drama male lead in his age range this season, has closed a deal for CBS’ The Surgeon General. The CBS TV Studios-produced project centers on Dr. John Sherman (Isaacs)— the most powerful doctor in the nation, the Surgeon General, who has 315 million patients. As “America’s Doctor,” Sherman and his team battle the powerful forces of politics and business, fighting to protect the health of everyday Americans. In addition to starring, Brit Isaacs will serve as producer. He is with Gersh, The Collective and UK’s Paul Lyon Maris. Rod Lurie has come on board to direct the pilot, from Lie To Me creator/executive producer Samuel Baum.

Some CBS doctor show was really the most interesting role he was offered!?!
Least likely to get cancelled, maybe.
I’ve seen it. It’s mind bogglingly stupid. Has the guy treating three patients on an emergency basis, in a hospital, on page one. The surgeon general DOES NOT TREAT PATIENTS. Period. Like making a show about the Secretary of Education and having him teach high school. Critics will destroy it.
Hello to Jason Isaacs
Is this the sweepstakes for signing talent that no one outside of LA knows who he is? and now directed by the guy whose last 3 DC projects on TV did not go beyond 20 episodes?
The odds of this working is more like hitting the lottery and not winning the sweepstakes
Unfair. Incredibly talented and magnetic actor. He just doesn’t make the best project choices.
Never underestimate what Jason Issacs brings to the table as an actor, be it a TV series, a theatrical movie, or whatever…
Barf.
Can’t wait for the courtroom battle over food labeling.
Thanks, Jason. Can’t wait for the two-parter about cigarette packaging.
On an all-new Surgeon General… Food labeling. Episode title: “Daily Values”
They couldn’t find an AMERICAN actor to play the AMERICAN Surgeon General? What a piece of sh!t. I know the foreign actors work for less money but, seriously, what about the unemployed American actors who want to work?
Isaacs must be getting a pretty sweet deal.To bad he will not be using his real accent. This project sadly has fail written all over it.
Do they seriously expect anybody 18-49 to watch a show about the Surgeon General?
I love you.
The surgeon general’s warning on a pack of cigarettes is most likely more interesting than this program will ever be.
Jason Isaacs, aka MUMBLE MOUTH–was the most boring lead actor in net work history in AWAKE. He put me to sleep for the four weeks that I tortured myself to watch that show. He was FREQUENTLY UNINTELLIGIBLE. He wasn’t much better in the BROTHERHOOD. And now this decidedly Blue Collar type is going to play the SURGEON GENERAL? Is CBS on crack? That’s the worst casting decision and fish out of water casting I’ve seen in a long time. That show has 5 weeks and done written all over it.
I can’t hear you. Could you RANDOMLY CAPITALISE a bit MORE??!!!
Isaacs WAS easily the best, most moving and HOTTEST thing this single mom saw on network last season but maybe his mumbling might have BEEN better for you if it was SCREAMING!!!!
Also…Blue collar?! the guy was Lucius Malfoy for pete’s sake. If you bought that he was blue collar, that’s because he’s an actor. Sorry, ACTOR!!!
As for the Surgeon General, I haven’t read it, have you? Has anyone here? I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt if he really had all this choice, that he chose something worthy of his talents.
Well said! Could not agree more
This is a total non-starter. One of those ideas that sounds good as a pitch, but when you break it down there is nothing there to hang a show on. In our polarized political environment, with all the misinformation and misunderstanding about health care in general, is there a more obtuse political player to base a show around? I can’t think of one except the Postmaster General?
CBS won’t give up till they get a medical show that works, will they? I’ve lost count between short lived shows and pilots how many in just the last 5 years alone!
Rod Lurie + Jason Isaacs, two of my favorites. I’ll be watching for sure!
And we all saw how Jason Isaacs made Awake into a ratings juggernaut. The underlying concept of this show is absurd. Nothing will alter that, nothing can save it.
Les Moonves went on the record just today (seen on this site!)saying they have few needs & are not going to pick up many shows. So,why they ordered so many pilots is a mystery(happy for the folks that get jobs, which is one good aspect to the ridiculously inefficient pilot system)The third (sigh) NCIS spinoff is most likely a lock so that’ll leave one-two more dramas for fall and a couple for mid-season. Comedies probably have a better chance but still they’ve got 11 of those SO people, don’t sweat it. This ain’t gonna be one of ‘em, imho
As for Isaacs in this role, he does seem a bit of an odd fit. I liked him in Brotherhood, but as poster said, he played a thug.!anyhoo, it’s likely moot
Oh God Jason. No! Why did you chose show about freaking doctors? I can’t bare to watch any show about doctors anymore. So tired of those doctors. Who always have tons of personal problems that viewers have to deal with. And listen to their whine and self pity every episode. I will not watch this show, sorry.
What’s next? Paul Bettany in ‘On-call Doctor; Chamber of Commerce’, coming this fall on NBC. Oy.
The Brits are coming the Brits are coming!!!! Does anyone think it strange that American actors are losing ground every year, as to work here in their own country. Every major American Icon is being portrayed by a Brit. And don’t give me that crap about them being better trained. They are not better trained and their american accents suck. Wake up America! Writers and Producers will be next and all down the line.
Hope this works out for Jason! I am a fan of Jason, his wife is thoroughly lucky! He is so hot, talk about a guy who just keeps getting better with age!
If all you idiots had watched Brotherhood, it would still be on and wr wouldn’t have to bitch about yhis show.
When is this show scheduled to air? Pilot?
