EXCLUSIVE: It is an L Word reunion on ABC‘s Romeo & Juliet-esque drama pilot Venice. The Showtime series’ star Jennifer Beals has signed on for a lead, while creator/executive producer Ilene Chaiken has come on board as executive producer/showrunner. Written by Byron Balasco, Venice, from Warner Bros TV and McG’s Wonderland Sound And Vision, is a soap about the haves and the have-nots of California’s most seductive city, Venice. It focuses on two rival families and a forbidden and dangerous romance emerging between them as the families battle for control of Venice. Beals, repped by APA and Greenlight Management, will play Lisa Carver, the elegant bohemian matriarch of the Carver family, one of the two feuding clans. McG is directing the pilot, which he, WME-repped Chaiken and Belasco executive produce with Peter Johnson.

Its about time both Beals and Chaiken got another show going. Can’t wait to see this!
She was great in Chicago code, love her and sounds very good
Yeah! Love Jennifer and her charm will make this show really fantastic!
What a great news! I absolutely adore Jennifer Beals. She’s a good actress and fantastic woman all around. Hope it gets picked up to series. I need her on my TV screen.
Sounds like a twist of Crystal Chappell’s two webseries – Venice and The Grove. Should be great with Jennifer Beals.
About time to see these two work together again. Magic in the making!
Fox did this show and it was called Skins and canceled quickly
It’s gonna be the OC with some flavor.
This sounds like The Grove’s storyline with the Venice The Series title….surely they can come up with something more original than copying Crystal Chappell’s ideas????? Anyone else see the similarities?
This is great! Jennifer Beals and Chaiken worked well together on the L Word. I can’t quite figure out what an “elegant bohemian” is, but whatever it is Ms. Beals can make it work.
I’m sure it will be a success because it has one of the best Hollywood actress Jennifer Beals. Congratulations Jenny a hug
Ouch. This sounds terrible, I’m sure it will be a hit!
Go Ilene! It sounds terrific.
Loved her in Chicago Code. Hope this works out!
I can’t wait to see this! We love you Jennifer.
battle for control of Venice? Like, who gets to be in charge of the drum circle or something? SOUNDS EDGY, MAN!!!
I am glad to see the girls getting work. However, I wish their show was more original as there are already series on the web way to similar to the name and the plot. It seems as though this pilot is a spinoff of “Venice The Series” and “The Grove The Series”, both created and produced by Crystal Chappell.
That is okay, I have not seen either one of them but I will not miss an episode that has Jennifer beals in it.
It’s a total rip-off of Chappell’s concepts.
Crystal do you just make a bunch of names and keep posting about how this show is similar to your not so oft watched youtube channel? Other than name of this show, it would seem to bear no resemblance to the link you posted below. I am pretty sure Venice has been employed in the titles of hundreds different pieces of art. In this case only Mr. Shakespeare seems to have a claim material was sourced as he wrote both the Merchant of Venice, and Romeo and Juliet.
“Battle for control of Venice”….? Don’t come north of Rose, you hear me? If I see you this side of Cafe Gratitude, we’re gonna have trouble.
Ha!
So it’s the Ewings vs. the Barneses sans the oil. Is Lisa Carver the new Pam Barnes then?
can’t wait to see. hope this show will keep on running
Had the pleasure of working with Byron and reading the script. Both great.
When I think Shakespearean I think McG.
Venice is California’s “most seductive city”? Venice?? That cramped little spot of land I race through on my way from LAX to the Palisades? Wow… San Francisco is gonna bitch slap whoever wrote that pitch…
Cant wat
Venice the Series is THE Venice. Going on its 4th season. http://www.venicetheseries.com
If it doesn’t have Crystal Chappell kissing Jessica Leccia….well, then it’s just NOT VENICE.
