EXCLUSIVE: Jeremy Jordan keeps finding ways to show off his vocal chops as he moves from stage to screen. The Tony nominee has been cast opposite Anna Kendrick in The Last 5 Years, adapted from Jason Robert Brown’s award-winning off-Broadway musical. Jordan will play Jamie, a rising novelist whose relationship with struggling actress Cathy (Kendrick) is explored through an unusual narrative device: His story unfolds in chronological order as the pair first meet, while hers unfolds in reverse starting at the end of their marriage. Richard LaGravenese (Beautiful Creatures) is directing from his own script and will produce with Lauren Versel, Kurt Deutsch, and Janet Brenner for Lucky Monkey Pictures.
Jordan won the 2012 Theatre World Award for Outstanding Debut for Bonnie & Clyde and nabbed Tony, Drama Desk, and Outer Critics Circle Award nominations for his breakout turn in Newsies last year. The singer-actor has since racked up music-oriented screen credits including Warner Bros’ Joyful Noise and NBC’s Smash, in which he appears this season as Brooklyn composer Jimmy Collins. He is repped by ICM Partners and Schachter Entertainment.

I don’t get it. Didn’t anyone watch him on Smash, he is awful. Can’t act at all.
He’s so annoying on Smash, almost as bad as Ellis. He does have a great voice, though. Hopefully, it’s just that he’s saddled with a dreadful character.
There is a difference between his character being bad and just being a bad actor. Jeremy Jordan has won numerous awards for his acting and singing abilities, so I doubt that his acting is bad. He’s just playing a bad character.
It’s not his acting that’s bad, it’s the writing of his character. Even then he looks Oscar-worthy opposite Dead Eyes McPhee.
If you cant be kind at least be vague
I disagree. I think Jeremy is outstanding! His character wasn’t very lovable but the boy definitely exudes talent!
Jeremy is an extremely talented performer. Having seen him in Bonnie and Newsies as well as joyful noise, he has the makings of a brilliant and long career. Best of luck to him on all his endeavors.
Beth, Jeremy wasn’t good in Joyful Noise.
Yes he was good. He has an incredible voice and he is adorable.
Actually he did a very good job.
Sorry…but I just don’t get it. He can hold a note, but that’s about it. Zero screen presence, and at the end of the day just nothing that special. And clearly his schedule will be empty once Smash is finally cancelled.
too many people in the know & in the industry love his work so sincerely doubt his schedule will be clear any time soon
Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh. This literally just turned a horrible day into an incredible one. One of my all-time favorite musicals, my favorite current Broadway star, Anna Kendrick is great and all… this is fantastic.
Jeremy has a great voice and acting talent. Terrific in Bonnie and Clyde. Hopefully he gets increasingly wonderful opportunities that will showcase him to the MAX! And, did I say Handsome?
Jeremy jordan is a very talented young actor, he was fabulous in Newsies &bonnie and Clyde. For those who are just judging him on his Smash characters, Jimmy Collins is a very troubled young man with a very dark past. Check out YouTube if you have any doubts on his ability. As a singer or actor. Why can’t we just be happy for him.
who are you to say he cant act?? How many Broadway leads have you had. How many awards and/or Tony nominations do you have?? Have you been in a movie?? Do you have a BFA in musical theatre?? How old are you?? Just wondering
Oh, please, the “what have you done?” line is so trite and tiresome. Presumably, what most of us have done is have jobs not as professional performers–does that mean we are not entitled to have opinions about the quality of performers? If so, then perhaps we should also all stop paying money to attend such performances, since we can’t possibly evaluate them.
BTW, I like Jeremy Jordan and think him a a talented performer–this is not about him, but about a mindless response.
not mindless at all just saying. opinions are fine they dont have to be mean. I love this kid & guess I feel protective. As stated before, if he couldnt “act at all” he wouldnt have gotten this far in in a very competive industry
…worth remembering that NEWSIES would never have worked at all without him; the PAPERMILL PLAYHOUSE in new jersey served as a catalyst, and got the best of the bargain!(!Here,s a little secret )I,ll reveal here,;) this writer is the last flesh -and- blood relative/cousin of BERNARD PUNSLEY, thats right; the last surviving of the original DEAD END KIDS on b-way 1936—! Of course they became legends in hollywood for 6 years.!BERNARD WAS THE ONLY MEMBER OF THE ENTIRE MGM FAMILY who left to become a MEDICAL DOCTOR…I have a little surprise for the departing cast this summer 2013–i.ll keep that in suspense;;—;pk
love to all the pro Jeremy Suporters. He could not have gotten so far so fast without amazing talent singing & acting
THANK GOD! Finally someone took vocals into account in casting a movie musical.
Happy for Jeremy although I would love to see him come back to Broadway.(A special return engagement in NEWSIES perhaps?)
I have to agree, I am not a fan of him in SMASH but that is most likely due to poor source material. Would like to see what he can bring to the table with this film
This makes me so absolutely happy. Jeremy Jordan is an amazing actor and singer. So is Anna Kendrick. I can’t wait for this movie!
I think he is hot & can sing. After watching Joyful Noise I had to Google him. Because I didn’t know who he was. I wish him well & look forward to seeing him more.
I saw Jeremy in Newsies at Papermill playhouse and on Broadway. I also saw him in Bonnie and Clyde. His voice is a gift from God. Listen to him sing Santa Fe. It will give you goosebumps. Best of luck, Jeremy.
t be honest the only thing I have seen him in is Joyful Noise, and he was amazing, he can sing like a bird and can move like MJ…the kid is ubber talented, not everyone is going to like him but thats ok because i know plenty of ppl that do…my friend that lives in NY saw Newsies multiable times…
Seeing Jeremy in West Side Story was the first time I experienced a standing ovation 3 songs into a show. He was wonderful in that and I’ve been following him since. Much luck to him!
Jeremy Jordan is incredible. He is so talented and excels in everything he does. His voice is one of the best I’ve ever heard and he’s a very skilled actor. If you can’t see or hear this I feel bad for you, because you clearly need glasses and hearing aids.
I preferred him over Constantine in Rock of Ages and wish they would have used him in the movie. He’s übertalented, it’s the roles that confine his abilities. His character is a jerk on Smash, but that in no way reflects Jeremy as a person.
My impression of him on Smash is that he’s managed to take a show that was faltering and make it even worse. I find zero to like about him in that vehicle. You can blame that on the writing (as some here have) however I’m not finding myself equally put off by other actors in the “re-worked” Smash, so the argument seems thin. After all, you can be an actor in a poor vehicle and still make a notably positive impression.
I almost always enjoy Kendrick, and would even call myself a fan. I hope he doesn’t put the stink on that project.
Jimmy Collins in Smash
is a dark maybe even bipolar guy. A total opposite from most of the roles Jeremy has portrayed. Its called acting. Happily for Mr.Jordan , lots of people in the industry like his work. Note his rise to fame, awards & award nominations.
Actually, I am disappointed in Jennifer Hudson. If anything I am put off by her. For someone who won an Oscar, she hasn’t brought anything either. Again, was an Oscar a fluke, or is the writing that poor it can’t even bring an Oscar winner to save it?
I think people don’t like him on smash because its such a poorly written show! They haven’t given him much to work with…and I’ve seen him on stage and I’m sure others can attest how charismatic he is!
As a Musical Theater producer, I can unequivocally say that Jeremy is one of the most talented young performers to ever grace the stage of Broadway. Since he relatively new, some of the harsher critics are basing their opinions on what they expect him to be.not what he is doing with the material given to him. Not only is he super talented, but you will never find a nicer guy.
Agreed. Saw him in Newsies and he is absolutely fantastic. Doesn’t anyone know that his character in Smash is the typical bad guy who to everyones shock 3 episodes later is the good guy.
He is a very niche actor. He works well for the stage, but has so far failed to be compelling in film. He can sing, and he’s got decent looks, but his acting is some of the worst I’ve ever seen and literally makes me want to cringe every time he opens his mouth. Granted, the writing in Joyful Noise and Smash season 2 has been no good, but the other actors have been carrying my interest. It is painfully clear who the weakest link is. Once the musical craze has died down again, he will be out of work in Hollywood. I hope Anna Kendrick has fun acting with a wooden plank.
You are all crazy he is such a talented, singer, actor, performer, the passion he shows when singing and dancing is amazing. Smash has done a full turn around this season when adding him to the cast. I really hope they renew the show.
Does a great job acting…..Jimmy C is a self-centered ass with a chip on his shoulder….licking old wounds, don’t know what you’re talking about!
Bottom line. You can say whatever you wish (negatively) about the boy but he has a huge fan base and many producers do like him as well.
