EXCLUSIVE: Actor-singer Joey McIntyre has been cast in CBS/Sony TV single-camera comedy pilot The McCarthys. Also added to the pilot, written by Brian Gallivan, directed by Fred Savage and executive produced by Will Gluck, is Jessica Chaffin, joining previously cast Jacki Weaver, Jake Lacy and Jack McGee. The McCarthys revolves around an Irish-Catholic, sports-crazed Boston clan and the gay son (Lacy) whose greatest sin is not his sexuality but his desire to spend less time with his family. McIntyre will play Gerard McCarthy, the one short guy in the family who is mad about it. Chaffin, repped by CAA and attorney Jeff Endlich, plays his sister Jackie, who swings wildly from overconfidence to insecurity, and is completely unaware that she’s her mother’s (Weaver) least favorite. This marks McIntyre’s first regular series gig since David E. Kelley’s Boston Public. At CBS, he is joining fellow New Kids On The Block bandmate Donnie Wahlberg, who co-stars on Blue Bloods. McIntyre, repped by Domain and KLWGN, will next be seen in Paul Feig’s The Heat with Melissa McCarthy and Sandra Bullock.
The CW is bringing another member from the original cast of the Hunger Games-esque The Selection. Australian actress Peta Sergeant has been added to the retooled pilot, reprising her role as Gaia, a rebel leader who is working to overthrow the monarchy. She joins Sean Patrick Thomas who also is reprising his role from last year’s pilot. Set 300 years in the future, The Selection is described as an epic romance centering on a working class young woman chosen by lottery to participate in a competition with 25 other women for the Royal Prince’s hand to become the nation’s next queen. Warner Bros. TV is producing the pilot, written by Elizabeth Craft and Sarah Fain based on Kiera Cass’ book. Sergeant is with TalentWorks and Magnolia Entertainment.

Cheers to The McCarthys for adding Joey McIntyre! He’s fun to watch and his genuine Boston accent will add some authenticity to the project. The script is hilarious. High hopes for this one.
Why do you keep calling it “Hunger Games-esque”? It doesn’t sound anything like The Hunger Games. Why not call it “The Bachelor-esque”? Seems more apt.
Totally agree. Lazy reporting if you ask me…
So true. After all, the scene in the pilot where all the girls are standing around, looking at the large diamond ring on display and wondering which of them “will be sent home first” does seem kind of familiar…
Because it is set in a dystopian future and features a competition.
It’s been described as The Hunger Games meets The Bachelor anyway. Quit whining.
I guess I will nitpick since I am admitted NKOTB fan. 1) it’s not “FORMER” as the band is releasing a CD in April. 2) it’s Wahlberg.
That said, I am giddy as a 10 year old, what about it?
Jake, Jackie, Jack, Joey, Jessica.
Chaffin is also in “the heat”
McCarthys = Partners = will not be watched on CBS
It’s going to be interesting to see how Donnie and Joe wrap filming CBS series around active careers as members of NKOTB which includes a new album (10), videos, and headlining a huge tour (The Package Tour). Looking forward to watching CBS two nights to see it all unfold.
Chaffin’s “Ronna & Beverly” at UCB is hilarious; can’t wait to see her in this!
They’re lucky to get Jessica Chaffin! One of the funniest people ever! GO JESS!!!!!!!!
WOW! Go Jessica Chaffin! She’s HYSTERICAL. I’m a huge fan of her podcast (and former work on Zoey 101 of course!) — Can’t wait to see this show! And hooray for Joey Joe…
Too excited that Joey Mac will be on another series – I think I’ve got a new favorite TV show!! Way to go, CBS!!
