Emmy winner Margo Martindale (Justified) is set to co-star opposite Will Arnett in CBS‘ untitled Greg Garcia comedy pilot. The project, written and executive produced by Raising Hope and My Name Is Earl creator Garcia, centers on Jack (Arnett), a recently divorced guy whose life gets more complicated when his parents have marital problems of their own. Martindale plays the mother, Carol, a vibrant but meddlesome and slightly controlling character who has to have her finger in every pie. CBS Studios is producing. Last season Gersh-repped Martindale also was cast in a comedy pilot, ABC’s Counter Culture, which was not completed after co-star Delta Burke sustained an injury on set.
In another CBS comedy pilot casting, Christian Barillas has joined the untitled Jim Gaffigan project, about Jim (Gaffigan), a guy who lives with his wife Jeannie (Mira Sorvino) and five kids in a 2-bedroom New York apartment. Barillas plays Arlen, the neighborhood’s drag queen who is one of Jim’s closest friends and a friend to his family as well.

So, now we know Martindale’s character on The Americans won’t be returning for season two.
No kidding. I was psyched to see her pop up in episode three.
Shes been a fav of mine since The Riches! Good to see her back to work. And Im in the middle of The Americans now, and it doesnt appear that her character will be long lasting, either-NOT a spoiler alert!
This actually means nothing for her role on The Americans. CBS does not have a ton of room for new comedies (even if they expand their block). There is a chance this doesn’t even get picked up and its already a tough competition with pilots like Mom, Crazy Ones, Bad Teacher, Ex-Men, and The McCarthys all with equally strong talent.
No, it is irrelevant whether her CBS sitcom gets picked up. Just the fact that Martindale made herself “available” for pilot season tells us her character’s story ends in season one of The Americans. The only thing that would argue against that is if The Americans were yet to be picked up for a second season, as one could then speculate that Martindale made herself available for pilots on a “second position” basis.
It just got picked up for next season, so Margo has a fall back position!
She will hopefully be nominated for an Oscar next year for ‘August Osage County ‘

Margo Martindale, is a great actor. She really stole the series on Justified. And she is adding great spark to The Americans, I was hoping she would be cast as a Hatfield on the upcoming NBC pilot but looks like that will not happen.
I’ve seen this Christian Barillas before, he is great! this comedy is bound to be picked up!
They better keep Margo on The Americans! The addition of her character to an already fantastic new show has elevated it even further! FX & The Americans writers, KEEP MARGO in the show!!
