The CW has tapped the offspring of another Hollywood royalty for a pilot. Maya Kazan, granddaughter of Oscar-winning director Elia Kazan, has joined Company Town. Written by Sera Gamble and directed by Taylor Hackford, the project chronicles the aftermath of a scandal at a Naval base in Virginia, which touches the lives of both civilians and military personnel in the area. The multigenerational, multi-class series centers around two early 20-something women — Krista (Gage Golightly) and Page — who grew up together, were once best friends, but now are on opposite sides of the Townie/Military divide. Kazan will play Krista’s friend Marla, a frustrated/wistful artist. Last year, the CW cast Meryl Streep’s daughter Mamie Gummer as the lead of Emily Owens, MD, while Gregory Peck’s grandson Ethan Peck co-stars in the pilot The Selection. Steve McQueen’s grandson Steven R. McQueen is on the CW’s hit series The Vampire Diaries.
Comedy veteran George Segal has been cast opposite Wendi McLendon-Covey and Jeff Garlin in ABC’s single-camera comedy pilot How the Hell Am I Normal, written by Adam Goldberg and to be directed by Seth Gordon. Inspired by Goldberg’s experience, How The Hell Am I Normal is a family comedy set in the ’80s that centers on in-your-face mother Beverly (McLendon-Covey) and hot-tempered father Murray (Garlin) who love their three eccentric kids so much, they can’t bear to see them grow up. Segal will play Murray’s father Albert who was the stoic, wealthy pillar of the family for years. Segal, repped by ICM Partners and A Management, recently starred in the TV Land comedy series Retired At 35.

she must be a terrible person. lets all talk about how her parents got her the job and she has no talent without seeing a frame of film!
No – she must be a wonderfully, talented person. Her parents or family connections played absolutely no role in her casting and she must have immense talent simply because of her last name.
Also, all of the other connected people who “made it” did so based on “talent.”
In Hollywood, all you need is talent and a dream. Money, friends, family, connections play absolutely no role in the industry.
Also, Zoe Kazan (her sister) was able to write and act in her most recent movie because she is very talented not because of connections.
All the people out there who haven’t made it – it’s because you are not talented. “Talent” is all you need – last names play no role.
Also, politicians never lie, our leaders are always right, authority is always fair, and justice is always done. We live in a great sunny world – don’t we???
Y’all need to relax. Maya’s a brilliant, talented young woman with a big heart and a tireless work ethic. The Hollywood game is undoubtedly a twisted, feudal mess — but knocking decent people you don’t know is just as cowardly as it was in seventh grade.
