Mike O’Malley (Glee) is set as a lead in Welcome To The Family, NBC‘s single-camera comedy written and executive produced by Rules Of Engagement executive producer Mike Sikowitz. It chronicles how cultures collide when a white family and a Latino family are bonded together by their children who fall in love followed quickly by an unplanned pregnancy. O’Malley will play Dan, the patriarch of the white family and the pregnant girl’s father — an affable orthodontist not known for rolling with the punches who is newly energized by the prospect of beginning his next chapter when his 18-year-old daughter leaves the nest. Sony TV is producing. O’Malley, repped by CAA and KLWGN, recently booked a major recurring role on the upcoming season of FX drama Justified. As a writer, he continues to work on Showtime’s Shameless and sold two scripts through Warner Bros TV this season.

Didn’t they just try this with Rob Schneider?
The only reason people bring up the Rob Schneider comparisons are because they both have Latino in-laws. This is a single-cam, does not have a creepy age difference relationship, is more of an ensemble piece, and has Mike O’Malley (a MUCH bigger deal than Rob Schneider).
And also is terrible. Such a hacky script.
It’s better than many other pilot scripts this year (cough cough Friends with Better Lives). I actually thought it was pretty funny, and Mike O’Malley (who can basically pick whatever pilot he wants) did too.
Bitter
Acting in a pilot, a writer on Shameless, sold two pilots through WBTV… and he’s coaching two hoops teams at the Y. Mike O’Malley is very talented and very busy man.
I loved Fools Rush In.
Not only is Mike a terrific talent, but my son Dylan thinks Coach Mike is the best coach ever! NBC made a very wise choice, and it will pay off big….
We’re up to 7 comments and only one of them is hating on Mike O’Malley. C’mon out of work writers, I’m sure you can do better than that.
So it’s TRUE COLORS with a Latino family instead of a black family. Clever.
