EXCLUSIVE UPDATED: MTV has given a pilot presentation order to Watching The Wilsons, a hybrid (partially scripted, mostly improv) comedy about a family in the vein of the Kardashians with a pinch of the Bluths from Arrested Development and the Pritchetts from Modern Family. The project, from RelativityReal, is designed to have the look and feel of an actual reality show. It was created by comedian Cy Amundson who is starring and co-executive producing. Reality veterans Jay Blumenfield and Tony Marsh, who are under an overall deal at RelativityReal, executive produce. Joel Hokestra and Generate’s Samantha Saifer co-executive produce. Amundson is with Gersh and Saifer.
Meanwhile, MTV has passed on Cassandra French’s Finishing School For Boys, Krysten Ritter/Eric Garcia’s hourlong pilot based on Garcia’s book.

Hopefully the mom will strike a better deal for her daughter’s sex tape than Kris J did.
The Kardashians collectively made $65 million last year….pretty awful deal indeed. Kris needs to start bringing her “A” game!
Gross.
MTV passed on the Kardashians and now has to resort to this. Ironic indeed.
MTV is such a wreck.
This could be excellent. If it is a satire of the Kardashians, I would definitely be in. Also, I hear MTV has a development deal with Arden Myrin, and she would be perfect for this.
when will MTV realize they are not a scripted network? they have failed at this since 2001.
Yes because Teen Wolf and Awkward are colossal flops.
If you ask a bunch of their execs what MTV’s “brand” is … nobody gives you the same answer. They are disjointed. With the recent hiring of Mina Lefevre, the question is whether they want to develop edgy ABC Family type programming or keep developing reality based sludge? I thought shows like Awkward and Teen Wolf were the cornerstone for things to come, but that hasn’t been the case.
They fail at giving shows fair chances. They succeed at making good shows. Death Valley was brilliant, The Inbetweeners was solid, The Hard Times of RJ Berger was also pretty good. I don’t see what’s wrong with trying to do scripted programming. It’s better than reality shows.
MTV – Moronic Television
This sounds very lowest-common-denominator and trashy.
Jay, kind of moronic to leave out what the “V” stands for, isn’t it?
You’re the idiot – the V is part of television. Please tell me that was a joke.
I know Cy personally, and this will be very funny. I am happy for him and look forward to seeing this air.
This sounds like it has great potential…anything satire-relate with regards to the Kardashians can only end well. Looking forward to watching!
Hey Ethan…love Cy’s joke about you!
CY = SEXY
Haha thank you Cy Fan…he has many with which i am involved
