Do No Harm will not be the only NBC Thursday midseason series MIA next week. Fellow low-rated newcomer 1600 Penn will be benched next Thursday for a new Office. I hear the move was prompted by The Office Valentine Day episode, which NBC brass loved. It came in supersized, so a decision was made to expand it into two back-to-back originals. For now the plan is for 1600 Penn to return the following Thursday, Feb. 21. 1600 Penn is coming off a series low 1.1 18-49 rating last night, down 15% from its previous original. It served as a lead-in to Do No Harm (0.7), which got the axe earlier this afternoon.

The Plan is for it to return on Feb 21. The reality may be very different.
Love Jenna Elfman and Bill Pullman but 1600 Penn is a miss. A little more West Wing and a little less Soap and they might have had something. Of course, a lot more West Wing or a lot more Soap and they might have had something, too. As it is, it’s a goofy waste of some great talent.
Awful show. Not funny.
Pulling a show for that reason is not a good reason to pull any show. That is not a good sign for 1600 Penn, and I expect it to be cancelled by the end of the season.
A turd is a turd is a turd is a turd is a turd is a turd…
But at lease the NBC brass got to go to the White House and brag about it on notes calls. They’re a smart and talent group.
1600 Penn is a disaster. Losing half of it’s lead in on episode five tells you something. It’s not getting better or building interest. If they need to get rid of it during sweeps, then they need to get rid of it period. I’ve rarely seen such self satisfied creators and writers, even after they have a hit, let alone a pure flop. Let’s all check twitter to see how they spin it and read the posts from 16 year olds who love it and tweet how annoyed they are that they have to go to class and watch the rest of the episodes online afterwards. The whole show is a joke but not a funny one.
Damn!,1600 Penns and not one good script for this unfunny show!
Exactly how “supersized” did this episode of The Office come in? Because in order to justify its expansion to an hour it would have had to have come in double the usual length. My guess is the show came in like 10 minutes long and now NBC will be padding the hour with an extra 20 minutes of commercials.
Said somebody who has never set foot within one hundred yards of a TV production.
I wish more people would give 1600 Penn a chance. The show is actually kinda funny.
I hope this saves the show. If NBC gave The New Normal, Guys with Kids and Whitney chances, they should have given one to 1600 Penn.
i AGREE, i LIKE 1600 PENN AS MUCH AS WHITNEY,
Why even bring this show back after those disastrious ratings it demonstrated a week ago? Seriously, anything Elfman touches, it gets ruined and then canceled after one year, with the exception of that show she had on ABC a few years ago. This show 1600 Penn is abysmal and should be getting its walking papers soon.
Elfman’s one of the few redeeming features. I expected to see some mild political satire; instead, we got “The Josh Gad Show,” about another tubby doofus making a mess of everything. Try again, guys.
lol @ another tubby doofus
Gadd might be a talented writer and actor but he’s just not very likable as a lead.
Hes so bad in it its not worth mentioning, but I just did! Theres only ONE problem with 1600 Penn-SKIP!
UPDATE: I figured Do No Harm would have gotten pulled after 3 episode airings but damn did NBC yank this pile of crap off the air quicker than I had originally anticipated. Just a terrible program and concept.
For what it’s worth, Ed Chung was crying in his office today. Seriously, the man was crying.
1600 is an epic fail and the reason it stinks is because the focus is on Josh Gad he is so wrong for TV it’s ridiculous that they let him star in this. He isn’t funny he’s a goofy loser and so is this show.
He really is the worst, and the main reason why we don’t tune into 1600 any longer.
While Gad may not be appealing don’t forget that the writing on 1600 Penn is AWFUL. The stories aren’t well told, the focus of the show is obscure and the jokes are for the most part poorly constructed and not all that funny. It really is the complete package of not very good tv comedy.
Even the president skipped out on this dud when they screened it at the White House. … What does that tell you.
Well he’s skipped out on everything else… so… not much.
It is really just comical to see how bad NBC is screwing things up. They keep picking stupid boring unoriginal shows.
Wow, more really bad key art for a Broadcast network show, can’t believe these people have the jobs they do. And look at Animal practice and Do no harm. how did that make it through the micro managers from Showtime? I guess when Mr. Greenblatt is a friend from the Kable-town crew you don’t have to worry.
they did layoffs some time ago. Me thinks maybe some of the wrong people were let go. Get them back, pilot season is about to begin.
Len fogge and Rich Licatta have made some horrible decisions creatively and as Executives.
Ten bucks says there will be some big meetings come Monday, Steve Burke may want to get involved.
NBC the Titanic of Television.
everyone knows this show doesn’t stand a chance. it would be less embarrassing if the directors, writers, producers, and “actors” stopped begging people to watch it on twitter! give up now.
1600 Penn is light and fresh! The movement and story telling is quick and fun. A great show that is smart and witty! I think this show needs atleast another season to help it grow. Rome wasn’t built in a day;)
wow! look at the post above! Josh Gad is commenting on Deadline. Or is it Lovett or Royce. Stick to begging on Twitter. People in the business actually read stuff here and it’s more embarrassing for you.
Agreed. Waste of time.
I love 1600 Penn great show it’s funny I’m 15 yr old I love the girl is pregnant and the baby daddy is hot!!! I love this show please don’t cancel it
And there you have the audience that this supposedly smart and witty comedy appeals to. a fifteen year old girl who likes the hot baby daddy. Enough said.
For some odd reason I watched an old 1971 Disney movie with my grandson yesterday called “Barefoot Executive”, starring a very young and cute Kurt Russell. It was about a chimpanzee who could pick successful TV shows from viewing the pilots. Maybe NBC should try to find that chimp. BTW, this movie had great character actors — and was very funny.
They had him-hisname was J. Fred Muggs, and even HE wouldnt work for this chump outfit! They wanted to puy him in bananas!
I think that 1600 Penn is strong enough for NBC to pull it for one week and put it back on next week
Strong enough for what? For it’s rating to continue their slide?
I think the show is great. Its an easy fun watch after a hard days work. Why does every show have to have intense drama for it to be good?? This is a light hearted interesting funny sitcom…pay attention to all the witty remarks made in undertones, sometimes theyre easy to miss but they are real funny and witty. Keep it going 1600 Penn!!!
The thing is that if you have to ‘pay attention to all the witty remarks made in undertones’ for the show to be funny then it’s not a funny show. Especially if ‘theyre (sic) easy to miss’. In a good comedy the jokes aren’t ‘easy to miss’ as they are obviously funny.
Part of the problem is an apt name for you…
After all…part of the problem these days is that if someone doesn’t slap you in the face with humor (or punch you in the dick with it) then you don’t think it’s funny.
There’s a lot to be found in the more subtle forms of humor that they hide in here. They’ve got the really big obvious stuff…and then the smaller stuff, and that’s where the payoff is.
Personally I like what Josh is doing here…although I think it would come off a little better if David Blue was playing the role.
I mean that with no offense meant to Josh as I do enjoy Skip…but I miss having David Blue around on Stargate: Universe.
It is actually really funny but most people won’t give it the time of day.
I love this show… it needs time to grow a little.. look how much “the middle” has grown from it’s very two-dimensional beginnings… The characters, the writers, the actors will all mesh soon enough.. this show has great elements. I hope NBC gives it a chance.
