The good news for NBC‘s midseason drama Hannibal — it got a slot on the schedule and a premiere date, April 4. The bad news — that slot happens to be Thursday 10 PM, which saw the demise of three freshman NBC dramas last season, Prime Suspect, The Firm and Awake, and one this midseason, Do No Harm. With Hannibal as the only remaining drama NBC has ready to go, it emerged as the logical choice to succeed Do No Harm, which last week was cancelled after two airings. Between now and April 4, NBC will air Law & Order: SVU repeats in the hour, which has been hampered by a very weak lead-in from NBC’s comedy block, especially newbie 1600 Penn at 9:30 PM. Hannibal, from Bryan Fuller, Martha DeLaurentiis and Gaumont International TV, stars Mads Mikkelsen and Hugh Dancy. The project is described as a contemporary thriller featuring the classic characters from Thomas Harris’ novel Red Dragon – FBI agent Will Graham (Dancy) and his mentor Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Mikkelsen) — who are re-introduced at the beginning of their budding relationship.

It’s a cursed time slot, true, but this show will have greater awareness and a better tune in factor as long as it’s good.
Sorry NBC. Thursdays at 10pm doesn’t work for me as I’m already glued to another program. Good luck though.
Because male-led high-concept shows have been doing so well in that time slot.
He’s a serial killer and a canibal! And works with the guy who is on a man hunt just for him but doesn’t realize it. Mayhem ensues!
That’s so fresh and new. That brain trust at NBC really worked hard on this one.
I loved Awake and the one episode of Do No Harm that I saw. Hannibal will probably be a great show, but it will get canceled. Sorry.
I’m cautiously optimistic about this one… even if I was cautiously optimisitc about “Southland”, “Prime Suspect”, and “Awake”, and we know now what NBC did to those series. Assuming the show is half-way decent, it would behoove the Peacock to give “Hannibal” a fighting chance.
NBC is moronic! Why put this show on against Scandal? This is just a foolish move. Hell, they could have aired it in the summer.
I’m pretty sure the brass at NBC knew that the Thursday 10pm slot is a bad place for a drama, but I assume they had no choice. I hope this show gets at least good enough ratings for another season; but there’s a slim chance.
I wonder if NBC will consider changing its mind and airing it Tuesdays at 10pm instead when Smash will likely fall even more.
news flash this is Not worth the effort that it will take to pick up the remote and tune to the station…
News Flash, Chuck. You need to back to your Do No Harm spec and leave the posts to people who know what they’re talking about. Can this show survive this time slot? Who knows. But people are going to be stunned at how extreme this show is. And on top of that, the cast is extraordinarily good. How do I know? Say my name.
Would love if they could work Tom Sawyer into the plot… Otherwise, no thanks.
Like it or not the #1 new show is Elementary and that has a lock on Thurs 10 PM. How do you program against that? Isn’t it obvious that gritty, edgy, dark is not working? Dexterish spin, good cast, but 10 PM Thurs is owned by CBS.
What do you mean “Isn’t it obvious that gritty, edgy, dark is not working”
The Walking Dead’s finale just got higher numbers than any scripted show (other than the Big Bang Theory)that’s currently airing on broadcast tv. The Following, even though it’s terrible, is still averaging around 6.5 million viewers a week, which is not bad considering it’s up against The Voice and Dancing with the Stars.
Game of Thrones is doing quite well considering it sits behind a paywall… Gritty, edgy, and dark works rather well when the shows premise isn’t complete shit *glares at Do No Harm*
There is always a choice! Why not out it on in the place of Fringe on Friday??? There’s a lot of older people who are familiar with the Hannibal legacy with Will Grahan, I think it will be a smashing sucess if done right (sorry, wrong network) it could be aired at eightp.m. or ten p.m. Gives me something exciting to look forward to on Friday nights, it’s hard to get over the demise of Fringe, but I will give it a shot if the program is great!
This slot killed one of my personal favorite last season: Kyle Killen’s “Awake” but i’m optimisitc for “Hannibal”.
Please NBC don’t killed this one. Bryan Fuller is one of the bests.
I have been following Mads Mikkelsen (After The Wedding, A Royal Affair).
This series should do very well with Mads starring in it.
They are dumping this series because it must be terrible. They don’t like what they see, The Following beat them to the punch, and they are going to roll the dice. If it was good, they’d save it. French Co Pro will be a disaster.
Even if it’s good it’s just going to get DVR’d while everyone else in the country is watching Scandal and NBC will kill it because it’s not instantly the #1 show on television. Rinse. Repeat.
No pun intended, but,Hannibal will be eaten alive by the competition•••yummy!
