Nicolas Cage has signed on to Tokarev, playing the lead role of Paul Maguire in the thriller. Tokarev tells the tale of Maguire, a former crook trying to find his daughter’s kidnappers and avoid falling back into his past. Spain’s Paco Cabezas is slated to make his North American directorial debut with the Hannibal Classics film from a screenplay by Jim Agnew and Sean Keller. Hannibal’s Richard Rionda Del Castro will produce with North by Northwest Entertainment. Cage, Patricia Eberle, Richard Salvatore, Mike Nilon, Hayley Magouirk, Jim Agnew, Sean Keller, Cam Cannon, David Milner and Martin J. Barab are executive producing. Hannibal Classics is handling worldwide sales and is selling the film in Berlin. Cabezas is repped by WME and Echo Lake Entertainment. Cage is repped by CAA and Kritzer Levine Wilkins Griffin.

So how many EPs can they squeeze into that Volkswagen? I bet all those opinions really helped the voice of the script.
Tokarev: “…tells the tale of Maguire, a former crook trying to find the kidnappers of his daughter and avoid falling back into his past.”
Stolen: “A former thief frantically searches for his missing daughter, who has been kidnapped and locked in the trunk of a taxi.”
Anything to get money for the tax man, eh?
Has Cage had a hit movie in the last 5 years? I can only think of stinkers.
The synopsis given sounds a lot like Cage’s recent film STOLEN.
His last movie, Stolen, has the EXACT same plot.
Has there ever been a case, in the history of cinema, when an actor has done two consecutive films with the EXACT same plot, barring sequels?
The Spanish director made an amazing movie called “Neon Flesh”. I saw in Tribeca Fest, a thriller full of energy and style in the vein of Guy Ritchie and Tarantino. Let’s hope this guy can resurrect Cage’s career…
I believe this was on the Blacklist a few years ago, it is a very dark script with a huge twist, its the only way it can be described without giving away the plot, I read the script a few years ago, it is nothing like Stolen or Taken, it is more like Usual Suspects, that is all I can say with out tipping what the project is really about.
he did two movies in a row before that which were the same. knowing and… something.
This script is amazing….there is nothing cookie cutter about it, there are plot twists i didn’t even come close to seeing. In the hands of the right director the film should be really good and really dark …especially if Nick Cage is at his best, lets not all forget is he is a brilliant actor when he wants to be.
Anyone knows how many more stinkers Nic Cage must do to be done with IRS? Cannot wait when he’ll be doing quality projects again.
Reads like a great Cinemax project from 1986.
Queue Andy Samberg’s Nicholas Cage impression…
Looks like Nicholas has another IRS payment due.
