Odette Annable (Breaking In) and Bruce Greenwood (The River) have been cast in ABC‘s Romeo & Juliet-esque drama pilot Venice. Written by Byron Balasco, directed by McG and executive produced by Ilene Chaiken, Venice is a soap about the haves and the have-nots of California’s most seductive city, Venice. It focuses on two rival families, the Nances and the Carvers, and a forbidden and dangerous romance emerging between them as the families battle for control of Venice. Annable will play Sophie Nance, the owner of the hippest boutique in Venice, who falls in love with the offspring of her family’s archenemies, Chris Carver. Greenwood plays Sophie’s father Gordy Nance, the most powerful man in Venice and head of the Nance family. Jennifer Beals plays the Carver matriarch. Warner Bros. TV and McG’s Wonderland produce. Greenwood, repped by Gersh and manager Chuck Binder, was recently in Flight and will next be seen in Star Trek Into Darkness. Annable, repped by UTA and Evolution, co-starred on the final season of Fox’s House. Balasco, McG, Chaiken and Peter Johnson exec produce.

Is this a comedy because its sounds fukn ridiculous…
Venice’s plot makes me think of The O.C…Anyone?
They ‘battle for control of Venice’? VENICE?! What? As a 12 year Venice resident, this has to be the most ludicrous pilot concept I’ve ever heard. Greenwood’s character is the most powerful man in Venice. Really? What’s he in control of? The skateboard park. Can’t believe someone actually said, ‘yeah, that one’s a winner’ and wrote a check for this farce.
true true true , Should be a pilot on how hipsters all moved to venice and fucked it up ordering 7 dollar coffee, and 8 dollar slices of toast , congesting the flow of traffic , and bringing their , baby accessories ,
venice is officially shit
I agree. Well said! At first I thought that Venice was the setting to match Shakespeare’s play, but that setting is actually Verona, not Venice. This is baffling. Of all the cities in California in which to set this hackneyed idea. I feel for Bruce Greenwood who is above this material. On the other hand, I can’t blame him. We all need a paycheck.
I thought of the same thing. They have to be kidding with this plot. DogTown is nothing like this what so ever. The most powerful people in Venice now are the rich yuppies that are buying the so called lifestyle and killing all the realness of what was once Venice. AWOL!
Worked with Odette a few years back–what a delightful person! Talented, smart, great work ethic, and always in a sunny frame of mind. McG anc co. are very lucky.
“California’s most seductive city”…I always thought that was Fresno…
I realize it’s a logline, but Venice isn’t even the most “seductive” city in the 310, let alone the state of California.
Bitter. Send your specs in, I’m sure they’ll read them.
Romeo and Juliet in Venice?! Alright, whatever.
Jennifer Beals is such an unpleasant person – as one of many people who worked on L Word who can’t stand her, I can’t understand why Ilene would put herself though that again – since Ilene is a gem.
Poor Bruce… As if John From Cincinnati wasn’t bad enough.
Venice is THE WORST beach town in California. No surf, stupid expensive, full of idiots.
This show is 100% Fail.
I’m guessing they’ll film this in Vancouver?
Hmmm… with all the talent and creativity in LA and undiscovered writers that have amazing ideas this is really the kind of thing that gets green lit? REALLY? BTW – I never realized I live in “California’s most seductive city”. All this time I thought it was Bakersfield.
I didn’t realize Jennifer beals was so unpleasant
Too bad. Pilot sounds aweful
LOL if you think this show will be anything like the real Venice. Even more ludicrous is if you think that actually matters.
I can see why they think it’ll be a salacious hit, and I have to say, I think they are right. Beautiful people playing half-naked surfers dealing with (what I assume will be) dramatic plot lines in what most of America will absolutely believe is an accurate depiction of a real place? Not my personal choice, and I probably won’t watch it, but yeah, come on- it’ll work.
