EXCLUSIVE: Paul Bettany is in negotiations to star opposite Johnny Depp in Transcendence, the Alcon Entertainment film that marks the directing debut of Wally Pfister, Christopher Nolan’s cinematographer on Inception and many other films. Alcon partners Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson are producing, and Nolan and Emma Thomas are exec producers. The film was scripted by Jack Paglen and the plot is being kept under wraps. The film will start production in the spring, and Bettany will play a scientist. Warner Bros is distributing. Next up for Bettany is Iron Man 3 (he provides the voice of Tony Stark’s computer Jarvis), and he stars in the thriller Blood with Mark Strong. He was last seen in The Avengers and Margin Call. Bettany is repped by UTA, Affirmative Entertainment, and Independent Talent Group. His UK manager is 42 M&P’s Kate Buckley-Sharma.

Johnny and Paul were so cool in The Tourist. They played off each other so well—two terrific character actors. I had misgivings about “Inception,” but Bettany ups the score. Can’t wait for Johnny to be in a movie where we can see his lovely face!
Oops! “Transcendance” not “Inception”. Sci-fi titles are beginning to sound like new car models–can’t tell on from another.
I’m also a big fan of Paul Bettany. He’s a talented actor.

Having produced a film with Bettany I have to say I think he really is so beyond the real thing. Sadly, he has passed on some great gigs in recent years. Colin Firth should be thanking Bettany left, right and center. He’s a great actor and his personal story is beyond. Just a mensch. I am happy for his family too. Jennifer hasn’t been working a ton lately so I hope he can earn a couple bucks to eliminate any pressure…should it exist. Bottom line, he’s been so undervalued and misunderstood. He can really do just about anything and will with this role. It is a big get for him. I got to hand it Melanie Greene. She’s the crazy glue that keeps it all together and has fought for Paul for years. She is the constant. This is a great things for Wally too….nice news!!
Jennifer Connelly has just finished production on 3 films (Stuck in Love, Noah, and a Winter’s Tale) and is about to start another (Cry/Fly). She also just gave birth to a baby a couple years ago. What more do you want from the poor woman?

I think paul will be great in this movie,he works well with johnny, and their both great actors.But i stil like paul better,he can do any role you put in front of him.So good luck paul this is your shot to the top.
