What News Corp COO Chase Carey recently called the “world’s worst kept secret” – Fox’s still-unannounced plans to turn its Speed channel into a national general sports network called Fox Sports 1 — just became a little less mysterious. In response to a question on CNBC about reports that he’ll host a show on the new service, Regis Philbin said “all I can tell you is this: There’ll be a major announcement coming out next Tuesday.” Well, what do you know? The Fox Sports Media Group has an upfront presentation scheduled for Tuesday afternoon. Anyone want to put odds on what Fox will announce? Sports Business Daily reported that Philbin was negotiating to lead a panel, much like Barbara Walters’ The View, that will focus on sports.

And the nation yawned.
Jimmy, this was your deal. I miss you.
Oh yeah..I want My sports info in a talk format hosted by Regis and maybe Joe Theismann as Meredith, Amhad Rashaad (as Star Jones) Manti Teo as (Lisa Ling) and Bruce Yananch as (Joy Behar)
Going after the 50+ I see.
Espn #1
You people crack me up, posting as if you think YOU are never going to get old!
This is a business — don’t take these things personally.
That idea worked just as much as ESPN on ABC has been since 2006.
What’s he going to host? OLD MAN CHESS IN THE PARK
Nice to see Regis back in the swing of things – I’m sure he turned down many other offers [probably good and bad] to try to find something that he was really excited about. He loves sports.
This show and network are not going to take on ESPN, and I’m sure that’s not their intent. Nevertheless, this show is a good start in the right direction. For the casual fan, Regis’ genuine love of the game will be welcome to viewers and a nice diversion from the day-to-day grind. If I was starting my own network, one of the first people I’d call is Regis. Well liked, well respected – all round good guy.
He was hatched from an egg in Area 51 then escaped
So what’s gonna to the NASCAR channel speed was good when they had the wrc and gp
Hundreds of truly talented men and women covering sports across the country and the best Fox can do is haul out this ancient, talentless clown, who has no connection to sports ? No wonder Fox’s news numbers are headed south. New York just doesn’t get that there’s a whole country out there, west of the Hudson River, that got sick of Regis a long time ago. Kelly’s numbers are way up since he left. This is exhibit A in why the average person just doesn’t like tv the way they used to.
Fox has a whole new league that is developing in college sports. 7 Catholic schools ditched the Big East Conference to form a new basketball league, all under Fox’s hand. They’re pitching the new league, which just added 2 new schools, the right’s to “Big East” and the use of Madison Square Garden for their tournament today.
OOOhhh 7 Catholic schools…no one cares about these little east coast schools with no names. Must be a big draw in Vermont!
Comedy and sports work very well together. Regis is funnier than most hosts and I’ll check it out.
