EXCLUSIVE: I’m told that Marvel Studios has found its female lead for the sequel Captain America: The Winter Soldier. They are in talks with Emily VanCamp, who makes the leap to the big screen after starring in such series as ABC’s Revenge, the WB’s Everwood and Brothers And Sisters. She joins Chris Evans in a sequel that doesn’t have a firm start date, but will be released April 4, 2014. The film is directed by Joe and Anthony Russo. If you recall, the first film started period and morphed into the present. I’ve heard talk that Scarlett Johansson will bring her Black Widow character to the mix. She is repped by UTA and Thruline.

Emily is the best!!! This is a huge boost to the franchise. Love her on “Revenge”–so excited to watch her on the big screen.
She is terrible on Revenge. Same blank expression week after week. She was the weakest link (Madeleine Stowe is that show’s saving grace)and I had to eventually stop watching it because her wooden acting was so distracting. Can’t believe they had other choices in actresses and chose Emily VanCamp.
Um, you know that she’s playing a cold-blooded person who is trying not to let emotions get in the way right? Everyone (including Emily) jokes about her “crocodile stare” — way to let the point of the whole show whoosh over your head.
THIS. It annoys me so much when people criticize her acting by saying she’s so expressionless or that she doesn’t show enough emotion on Revenge. She’s not supposed to! That’s the character. Emily Thorne has to be closed-off, meticulous and cold. Geesh. Do people not understand the concept of the show?
Anyone who says she was expressionless in Season 1 of Revenge hasn’t seen her in the 2nd season. They’ve allowed her emotions to shine through, and Emily VanCamp knocks it all out of the park.
Sorry, you lose!
Um lil mama,
she is famous
And by “talk” you mean Scarlett Johansson being more than confirmed to be in The Winter Soldier.
Scarlett like every other person who signs to do a Marvel movie is contractually required to do at least 4 or 5 or 6 other movies.
The Everwood Alumni Magazine’s news and notes section for the past few months has been an absurdly long and interesting read.
Emily is perfect for this role. Great pick.
Why? She’s terrible. Well, mediocre at best. Stiff and actressy.
God bless the internet. You lash out and call this actress terrible before you’ve even thought out your own comment.
you are a beautiful person.
Nope. She’s smart, talented, and has a great deal of charisma. Great choice for the role.
To think we’ll most likely get an Ant-Man movie before a solo Black Widow one.
a) The industry is sexist (still waiting for that big-screen Wonder Woman movie).
b) Black Widow–like Nick Fury or Hawkeye before you mention them–isn’t strong enough to carry her own big-screen movie. Black Widow can’t even carry her own monthly comic and has ALWAYS been a side character in other people’s books (Daredevil, The Avengers) outside of the occasional limited series over the years.
AAAAAAAH! THIS IS AMAZING. Emily VanCamp is amazing and I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE Revenge. I am soooooo happy for her and sooooo much more excited to see the movie.
Not someone I would have guessed as a candidate for Sharon, but now that she’s been cast I can see she fits it well. Nice to see her get a big film role, too.
Meh. Still disappointed Hayley Atwell isn’t coming back. Could she possibly be playing Carol Danvers?
Huh. You’re the only one to comment with some kind of Marvel Comics relevance. Nicely done! I too am guessing she’s to portray Carol Danvers. Which should lead to Ms. Marvel. Which should involve Captain Marvel. And the Kree. Then the Skrulls. Unless the screen writers & directors decide to ‘wing it’ & not utilize the direct Marvel Comics source material. Like the chumps that made the first 3 X-Men movies. Jeez.
She’s most likely Sharon Carter, Steve’s girlfriend in the comics, and the niece of his love interest in the first movie.
Yeah, that was my first thought. Never really considered her before but she would make a decent Ms Marvel.
Love Emily!!
I always feel like she has a limited range of emotion, but perhaps that’s just because of her character. I’m excited to see what she can bring to this movie.
I’m surprised that Alison Brie wasn’t cast. The Russo brothers directed the majority of the Community episodes, and I figured she was a lock when her name was mentioned in the original list.
YAY! Emily is amazing! She was perfect in Everwood and even better in Revenge. So much range as an actor!
BOO!! We wanted Alison Brie.
Emily VanBoring…. ZZZZZZZZZZZZ
Agreed! I love her on revenge!!
Jealous much?
NO, Mary Winstead is sooo much better, Emily it’s ok =/
Holy fudge, that would be totes amazeballs if she’s Carol Danvers
EVC is great, at least she looks like a superhero, being 5’8″ and pretty as hell. there was talk of other, really short actresses for the role, like Imogen Poots (5’3″) or Anna Kendrick (who is around 5′), but i am glad they went with a taller actress, at least she looks like Sharon Carter of the comic books
Emily was the weak link on Brothers & Sisters to the point I refuse to watch Revenge. Is her role in this new movie actually big or is it just like that other TV starlet Cobie Smulders who got a lot of attention for joining The Avengers but was basically an extra in the final product?
She’s the main character’s love interest.
Weak link on B&S? Really? Sure he character wasn’t great, but that was one role and that had more to do with the bad writing then her acting ability. Everwood and Revenge she shines in, and she has a very natural ability to emote well without forcing it.
So, is this for sure for the part of Sharon Carter? Van Camp is beautiful, and I’m sure she’ll do fine, but it seems a no-brainer to just cast Atwell as Sharon, and make her blonde to separate her from her sister/aunt/great-aunt/grandmother.
…her?
Is there any talk of this being shot in Boston? There was some talk last year of this being filmed in Massachusetts? Thanks,Craig
Revenge is 1 of my Top 10 fav TV shows on Hulu because of Emily.
