Rob Riggle is in final negotiations to topline The Gabriels (formerly House Rules), Fox’s single-camera comedy pilot from 20th TV and Principato Young. I hear the deal also includes a producing/development component for Riggle. Written by Andrew Gurland and Justin Hurwitz and to be directed by Jason Winer, The Gabriels centers on a neurotic family with contempt for all things normal that tries their best to fit into their small Midwest town where everyone knows each other and politeness reigns. Riggle will play the family’s patriarch in the pilot, executive produced by Gurland, Hurwitz, David Dobkin, Peter Principato and Paul Young.
Riggle, repped by WME, Principato-Young and attorney Warren Dern, most recently had a talent/development deal at HBO, and the pay cable network will continue to develop the projects he originated there. Last year, Riggle was in 21 Jump Street and The Lorax, hosted the 20th 2012 ESPY Awards, joined the FOX Sports NFL Sunday pregame show team and guest starred on the Fox/20th comedy series New Girl. He recently launched his web series Coogan Auto on YouTube’s Loud Channel.

This is a perfect Pilot, perfect role, and perfect opportunity for Rob RIggle.
Agree that this sounds like a role that he can utilize his talents w/out simply being the loud asshole. His spot on New Girl showed he has the goods.
Rob is awesome and will crush this role!
Rob Riggle is hilarious, and would be a perfect fit. He crushes everything he has ever done. They should sign Patrick Warburton to play his older brother.
Riggle and Warburton would be a great fit!!
Riggle is funny & talented but he is NOT a lead – there are many failed pilots of his to prove this.
He had 2 failed pilots as a lead. The first one, Team Spitz, everyone was raving about him, and it was almost guaranteed to go to series. But when CBS snagged Judy Greer for Mad Love, they decided to go with that one.
The second one, Home Game, was just a bad script. Riggle is a good actor, who should make a fine lead.
With a good supporting cast (my guess: either Patrick Warburton, Rob Huebel or Kevin Corrigan as his brother, and perhaps Sarah Silverman as his wife). Andrew Gurland and Justin Hurwitz are both hilarious, and this should be a good show.
Hasn’t there only been one?
Ugh. Can’t stand this guy. He’s like a loud fratboy whose buddies became famous comedians and invited him along for the ride. Obnoxious in every single role I’ve seen him in. Wasn’t surprised to see him show up as the ‘comic relief’ on ESPN Sportscenter commentary a few times.
He is talented and funny which is not easy… I think if the script is solid it’s got a great shot to series.
RIGGLE is one of the funnniest people on the planet. This will hopefully be the break he so deserves as he is ready to be a star! Cant wait to see this
