EXCLUSIVE: Save The Last Dance star Sean Patrick Thomas has been cast in the CW’s retooled pilot for the Hunger Games-esque The Selection. He also co-starred in the original Selection pilot last year, and I hear he is the only cast member from last year to return. Set 300 years in the future, The Selection is described as an epic romance centering on a working class young woman chosen by lottery to participate in a competition with 25 other women for the Royal Prince’s hand to become the nation’s next queen. Thomas is reprising his role as Sylvan Santos, the Queen’s close advisor and an expert on all things related to royal etiquette. Warner Bros. TV is producing the pilot, written by Elizabeth Craft and Sarah Fain based on Kiera Cass’ book. Aimee Teegarden, who played the lead in The Selection last year, also is back this year but as the star of another CW pilot, Oxygen. Thomas, repped by Innovative, recurred on the CW drama Ringer last season.

Yikes! I’m sorry for him. This pilot is not very good.
I also saw the original pilot. ALL THE ACTORS SUCKED. The character description is “the Queen’s close advisor and an expert on all things related to royal etiquette.” This entire show is obviously CW’s Hunger Games, which is okay if it weren’t evidently being cast by a team of casting directors who’s intelligence I question.
But the original character that Santos is obviously based on is SUPPOSED TO BE GAY!! They F’d this up on the feature film and the CW F’d it up ROYALLY for the original pilot. Hopefully they do something about it this time considering they have a decent actor on board. The one thing they did get right is casting a black guy. But they still should have gone with someone much younger. It’s too bad casting directors are too busy to read the books.
Sean Patrick Thomas is awesome ! The CW kept the most talented actor! Can’t wait!
I couldn’t be more excited to see this story come to life onscreen. I’ve always been a fan of Sean Patrick Thomas! He’s an amazing actor.

William Moseley’s probably just too good for the CW in the first place. He’s my favorite actor ever so that’s what got me all excited for the show and the book. But the book was really good, I guess I’ll still be interested to see how the cast turns out, although nothing will compare to Will… sorry about my soapbox 
It’s not based on the Hunger Games. There is an actual book called the Selection. It’s written by Kiera Cass. Look it up.
