Jeff Zucker has completed yet another move on his CNN chessboard. After a year and a half hosting CNN’s Starting Point, Soledad O’Brien will be leaving the morning slot in the spring it was announced today. The move was not unexpected as former Today producer Zucker had said even before formally taking over at CNN in late January that he wanted to revamp the network’s morning show. ABC’s Chris Cuomo was brought onboard last month to host with current primetime host Erin Burnett expected to co-host. Once she leaves the morning show O’Brien will be concentrating on making and hosting documentaries for CNN with her new company Starfish Media Group. “We greatly value Soledad’s experience, and her first-rate storytelling will continue to be an asset to CNN. Documentaries and long-form story telling are important to our brand and we’re anticipating more of what we’ve come to expect from her — riveting content,” said Zucker in a statement Thursday. O’Brien has been with CNN since 2003.
